Now, let's look back at the 2008 draft.

Yeah, Rams coulda gone with Ryan. They didn't and this is about the top DL taken in the draft of 2008. My recollection about then was mostly about C. Long, Gohlston and Dorsey. Two seasons are now in the books, regular seasons. What's the stat picture look like. I included Gholston because many projected him as a DE on the Rams if they taken him ahead of Long.

    Tackles Sacks PD FF FR

    Chris Long 80 9 0 2 0
    Glen Dorsey 96 1 3 1 3
    Vernon Gholston 28 0 0 0 0
    Sedrick Ellis 64 6 7 0 0
    Derrick Harvey 69 5.5 4 0 0
    Lawrence Jackson 59 6.5 2 2 0
    Kentwan Balmer 19 0 1 0 0

Can't say Long was the wrong defensive lineman taken. Many will say with their perfect 20-20 hindsight that Ryan should have been the pick though.

I think Long is developing just fine. Next season should be a breakout season for him. Especially if Suh is added to the line.

    What happens to Carriker? DE?

Although Dorsey's numbers are looking pretty solid for a 3-4 end, I'm still very happy with the Long pick. If we had picked Dorsey, our chances or taking Suh this year would have been slim to none. Sacks are good, as are the pair of forced fumbles, which is tied for the most among the list.

Next year is looking good for Long, to be sure.

We should keep Carriker, possible that he slims a little and plays some de but I'm not sure about it. There is nothing wrong with a nice fresh rotation in the middle and I do think Carriker at times shows promise but he has had bad luck with injuries. I wouldnt mind seeing the team play him some at de and see what he has to offer. In my opinion they kept one of our better de's on the inactive list in Adeyanju. He plays his arse off week in and week out. So let Carriker show what he can do at de.

I would really want to see how Gholston does actually playing DE in this league though, instead of playing OLB.
