The obvious case for Josh McDaniels

Childress never called plays in philly and he didn't call plays in Minnesota. McDaniels on the other hands has called plays for high octane passing attacks in Denver and New England.

Spags was the only guy able to stop McDaniels offense in the Patriots record breaking offensive season where they nearly went undefeated. Spags has to respect that. McDaniels offense also put up the 3rd most points and most passing yards on Spags defense this season. He has first hand experience on how good McDaniels Offenses are. Tom Brady, Kyle Orton, and Matt Cassell had arguably their best statistical seasons under Mcdaniels. The Patriots 2007-2008 season was arguably the best offensive season ever. Its hard to find a coordinator in the league like that with those credentials let alone available for hire.

Brandon Lloyd and Wes Welker were pro bowlers out of nowhere under McDaniels. Jabar Gafney had his best season ever with almost 900 yards. Randy Moss had his best season ever. The guy can get the most out of elite and marginal talent.

Great QB Coach developed projects like Tim Teebow and Matt Cassell, but also had vets like Tom Brady and Kyle Orton playing there best football.

RBs are always versatile performers. He has never had a complete back, but has always had role playing backs who do their jobs perfectly. Steven Jackson is a complete back and would be near the league lead in yards from scrimmage in this system.

Every guy has downfalls. I would like to see him use the TE more, but its not like the Rams have world beaters at TE anyway. TEs need to block in his system Oh-Oh would be a good fit He gets pass happy at times, but look how many passes the Rams threw last season. Terrible personnel guy, but thats not his job here.

Very good argument, I think the playcalling ability is what separates McDaniels and Childress. You've convinced me that McDaniels is the way to go. Inspite of the Bradford having to learn a new playbook he's smart enough to handle it and I think it'll be at least 2-3 years before McDaniels will be interviewed for a HC job.

I am actually surprised he hasn't been named our new OC yet.

Nonetheless, I think the announcement will come tomorrow.

Doubt we let him leave without a contract.

Think the Chilly interview is just a backup in case things don't progress with McD between today/tomorrow.

I doubt Spags would arrange an interview with Chilly only to hire someone before the interview, Chilly is too much his friend to not give him the interview. Still, hiring an OC this week so they can start on the draft eval would be nice.

Good post 39! For the reasons mentioned here and in the OC poll, I keep thinking Mac is just a better fit -- even a better image -- for the Rams OC vacancy right now.

The only way McDaniels doesn't become the new Rams OC is if he demands too much control. I'm not talking about offensive gameplanning control, but if McD wants to start bringing in his own guys, I don't think Spags and Devaney will allow that.

Should the Rams be concerned with McDaniels "SPYGATE" history? Was it the talent that made Josh or does he desreve the credit he's had in New England?

If he only called plays in New England maybe you can make that argument, but he was successful with elite talent in New England as a well as mediocre talent in Denver.

As for spygate he is not the head coach he doesn't have the power to make those calls only the head coach does and I don't think that is Spags style

I think McDaniels has shown an ability to get a lot out of the players he has. It's just that under no circumstance should he be allowed to choose the players.
