Re: Official: Rams hire Brian Schottenheimer
Again, certainly wouldn't be my choice. But it's Fisher's world, we're just rooting for it.
There's nothing in the history of the two options indicating Schott to be the superior candidate, so maybe it came down to Jackson not being willing to give a long-term commitment?"Before the gates of excellence the high gods have placed sweat; long is the road thereto and rough and steep at first; but when the heights are reached, then there is ease, though grievously hard in the winning." --- Hesiod

Re: Official: Rams hire Brian Schottenheimer
Not thrilled with this move at all, but I'll support it. Schottenheimer is now the guy so I'll hope the change of scenery and personnel makes a difference.

Re: Official: Rams hire Brian Schottenheimer
I'm just scared that if he has success that he's going to get a head coaching opportunity not too far down the line. He got an interview with Jacksonville (and I know they're not exactly the standard, but still) this year even after his offense was viewed as inept or a failure. I just want some stability at the position because this, more than likely, will be the defining hire under Jeff Fisher.

All the excitement I had for the Fisher hire just completely died.

The St. Louis Rams have hired Brian Schottenheimer as their new offensive coordinator. According to league sources, it was a close call between Schottenheimer and Hue Jackson. Those sources said Rams head coach Jeff Fisher was impressed with Jackson following their interview earlier this week.
Schottenheimer, 38, comes to the Rams after six seasons as offensive coordinator with the New York Jets. Although there has been no official announcement by the team, the Rams now have both coordinators in place with Schottenheimer on offense and Gregg Williams on defense.

Not a very exiting hire, but I'll wait until we play some games to judge. I would have preferred someone with more success developing players but oh well.

Re: Official: Rams hire Brian Schottenheimer
I've posted my feelings about Schotty. I'm not a fan, but I've been wrong plenty of times before. There's nothing left to do now except support him and hope he can turn things around.

Re: Official: Rams hire Brian Schottenheimer
Considering how excited everybody has gotten over the past couple years for hires that didn't work out, maybe a hire like this is actually good news.
Whether you wanted the Rams to hire him or not, he's our OC now so let's hope he gets the job done.

Re: Official: Rams hire Brian Schottenheimer
I remember in an earlier thread around here someone mentioned that before he was OC for the Jets he played a role in developing Drew Brees and Philip Rivers in San Diego. I'd say thats something to be optimistic about. As far as his lack of success in developing Sanchez, well, we all know what they say about trying to polish a turd.
