Official: Rams sign Frerotte
Rams sign Frerotte as backup QB
BY JIM THOMAS
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
03/17/2006
The Rams added some much-needed quarterback experience behind Marc Bulger on Friday, agreeing to terms on a three-year contract with veteran Gus Frerotte.
Contract details weren’t immediately available.
Despite earlier reports and speculation, Frerotte didn’t agree to terms with the Rams until shortly before 1 p.m. on Friday.
Frerotte, 34, has spent his last three years playing for Scott Linehan, the Rams new head coach.
Frerotte started all 16 games for the Miami Dolphins in 2005, with Linehan the offensive coordinator. He completed 257 of 494 passes (52.2 percent), for 2996 yards, 18 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
Frerotte spent the 2003 and ’04 season backing up Daunte Culpepper in Minnesota, where Linehan was offensive coordinator.
Frerotte was released by Miami this week, after the Dolphins traded for Culpepper. But Miami was interested in re-signing him, and he was also pursued by Denver.Last edited by RamWraith; -03-17-2006 at 05:15 PM.

Re: Official: Rams sign Frerotte
I like this signing, it makes good sense. Hopefully it was at a modest price, with room left for a veteran DT, maybe even a veteran OL.
Now trade/cut Smoker, and bring Fitz along slowly behind the two veterans.

Re: Official: Rams sign Frerotte
smoker will not be cut because our QB coach is his old coach from michigan st. so he will be given a shot... i could see maybe fitz. being traded to someone looking for backup up help or someone looking for a project Qb....

Re: Official: Rams sign Frerotte
This gave me a laugh. When Gus was playing with the Skins, he koko-butt a concrete wall as his touchdown celebration causing him to be injured. Read the link I provided by Tony Kornheiser. He makes a remark about Gus wanting to get traded to the Rams. No big deal but I got a kick out of it...

Re: Official: Rams sign Frerotte
I think that this was a great signing. Let's just hope that he doesn't think the horns will help with headbutts!

Re: Official: Rams sign Frerotte
This is a great move and excellent insurance policy for the Rams. Gus could start for many teams, and I wouldn't imagine that we will see much of a drop off in the offense if Mark should happen to go down. I LIKE what our new coach and FO is doing, and hope they keep up the wise decisions come draft day.

The best thing of all is Bulger has a veteran to lean on and bounce ideas off of instead of two young guys. Frerotte knows Linehans offense and he is a veteran this could help Bulger learn the system quicker and adjust quicker.
