Official: Ryan NOT hired as Rams DC
Although I was warming up to the idea of having Ryan as our DC, I can't say I'm disappointed in the news. For those who find it strange that--seemingly--the issue of philosophy was only first analyzed post-hire; let's just say that I'm glad they did it now rather than later.
To me, the D was one of the greatest parts of 2012 and if it ain't broke don't try and fix it. I'm more inclined to promote within the organization...
I think having Ryan could've been great or a nightmare (like anything else, of course). Regardless, the only coach's personality I want to even be aware of is Fisher's on game day.
Always and Forever a fan of the St. Louis Rams

Fisher: Rams won't hire Rob Ryan
Updated: January 29, 2013, 11:30 AM ET
ESPN.com news services
The St. Louis Rams will not hire Rob Ryan as defensive coordinator after a second visit with the coaching staff Monday determined that his addition was not a good "scheme fit," according to coach Jeff Fisher.
Fisher noted that the team did not make an official announcement on the hiring of Ryan, but his team will publicly confirm that Ryan will not join the staff.
Last week, a source had told ESPN that Ryan would be hired as the Rams' defensive coordinator.
The boisterous Ryan was fired as defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys on Jan. 8, soon after owner Jerry Jones said he would make major changes to a team that finished 8-8 and missed the playoffs.
After his ouster in Dallas, Ryan said, "I'll be out of work for like five minutes."
Last season, the Rams' defense was coached by a host of assistants after proposed defensive coordinator Gregg Williams was suspended by the NFL for his role in the New Orleans Saints' bounty scandal. The team announced earlier this month that Williams, who has yet to be reinstated by the NFL, won't be with the team next season.
League sources have said that Williams is on the verge of being hired as the Tennessee Titans' assistant head coach.
Before Williams can finalize a contract with the Titans, however, he first must be reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell -- a move that could come as early as this week.
Information from ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen and ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter was used in this report.

Jesus.. Lets get someone in here! I'm betting Ryan wanted to run a 3-4 and Fisher wasn't down with it.

Re: Official: Ryan NOT hired as Rams DC
As Sosa said as he beat me to it: Me thinks that I was correct in suggesting that Ryan was going to want to switch us to a 3-4 base set.
Since that seems to be the case, I'm very happy that all of my contingency planning was for naught and we can keep going with ou 4-3. Please resume looking for low-mid Sam backer FA's and mid round rookies. That is all.
I believe!

Re: Official: Ryan NOT hired as Rams DC
Cant say I'm not dissapointed he isn't going to be our Cordinator. Never thought he would of been a good fit for us at any point. If it's not broke don't fix it... promote from within or find someone who's character and BS isn't bigger than the position he's being hired for.

Re: Official: Ryan NOT hired as Rams DC
LOL
Well... I pretty much called that one a while back. The "media" jumps the gun again!
So much for the notion that "if Adam Schefter says it, it true"!
Whatever the reason for the decision, I continue to trust Jeff Fisher to make the right call.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: Official: Ryan NOT hired as Rams DC
Kind of a strange situation. So many reports that Ryan was going to be hired, then articles written from the perspective of Ryan as the Rams DC, yet the Rams never commented on any of it to correct the record.
That said, like others, I'm fine with the way this played out. IMO, Ryan would have tried to change a good thing.
I guess Ryan has to retract his "I'll be out of work for like five minutes." pronouncement.
