Rams Continue Defensive Coordinator Search

St. Louis Rams – Blog | Rams Continue Defensive Coordinator Search
- Despite reports over the weekend that the Rams had hired Rob Ryan as defensive coordinator, the team confirmed Tuesday morning that those reports were pre-mature. In fact, the Rams went so far as to say that despite long conversations with Ryan concerning defensive philosophy, the sides couldn’t find a common ground and the team is actually moving on to interview other candidates.
- From COO/Executive VP of Football Operations Kevin Demoff:
“After extensive conversations regarding defensive philosophy, the Rams and Rob Ryan agreed he was not the right fit for the club’s Defensive Coordinator position. The Rams will continue the interview process with the club’s other candidates.”
- In other words, Rob Ryan will not be the hire. No specifics are available yet on what exactly the disagreement on philosophy was though one would imagine Ryan’s general preference for the 3-4 would have factored in at some capacity. The Rams run a 4-3 defense and the lack of scheme fit would be an obvious reason.
- No word on who some of the other candidates under consideration are but Coach Jeff Fisher has traditionally taken his time and played such hires close to the vest.
- The team did announce the hire of Frank Bush as linebackers coach on Tuesday.
- More on this as it comes. Thanks for reading.***Rams News Now! For More Rams Info, Articles, and Breaking News

Re: Official: Ryan NOT hired as Rams DC
A lot of misreporting going on here. What Rob Ryan actually said after agreeing to become our DC is "I'll be out of work in like 5 minutes!"

The good news:
The branch from the buddy ryan coaching tree has just suffered a chainsaw massacre.
Long live the Jeff Fisher coaching tree!

Re: Official: Ryan NOT hired as Rams DC
This is kind of strange to me. It would seem that schematic preference should have been one of the first things these guys all talked about, and if that was the deal breaker, should have resulted in a much earlier resolution to this story. The fact that this seemed to drag on for as long as it did makes me wonder if something else was a factor.- In other words, Rob Ryan will not be the hire. No specifics are available yet on what exactly the disagreement on philosophy was though one would imagine Ryan’s general preference for the 3-4 would have factored in at some capacity. The Rams run a 4-3 defense and the lack of scheme fit would be an obvious reason.

Re: Official: Ryan NOT hired as Rams DC
It is odd. Money ? Dunno if Roberta's even being considered for NO & their reported new 3/4 but maybe he bluffed for more money, regardless, and Demoff/Fisher called. Didn't that news break between the first credible claims about the hire and this decision ?
If it wasn't that, then something else in that timeframe had to have effed it up rather than such fundamental stuff, I fully agree. Maybe he was given "homework" (eg "Give me a gameplan to beat Seattle on the road with the personnel we had in Wk 17 last year.") & his answers didn't impress.

Re: Official: Ryan NOT hired as Rams DC
I get that you're trying to be funny here, but I think given all the criticize Ryan has taken for his personality, it's worth pointing out (and if someone already has, my apologies) that Ryan apparently cuts his hair annually to donate to Locks of Love...
Cowboys Corner: Ill-timed haircut causes Ryan's attempted donation to Locks of Love to come up short
Anyways, back to our regularly scheduled humor...

Re: Official: Ryan NOT hired as Rams DC
I was with everyone else on the forum: in fisher we trust. After meeting with coaches if fisher felt ryan wouldn't fit schematically, then I fully support it.

Wow, the reporting for coaching "hires" has been atrocious this year. On to the next...
