This offseason needs to be beyond productive. We need new management, a new GM, a new owner.
I went to the game today with a friend and his father, and he did a business deal with the Vikings, handling new ownership and the new owner said this, "I've never owned one of these before." He made it sound as if he's never had a Toyota.
My point is, we need a new owner that knows what they are doing and or will do the right thing in hiring the right people to control the team and what they do with draft decisions and FA acquisitions, etc, etc. I'm still angry that we didn't pick up Bill Parcels, it was a huge mistake that we didn't atleast try to get him.
Let's look at what we need:
1. Games are won in the trenches, and we apply no pressure on defense and we succumb to the pressure on offense. We need to change this immediately, especially with the offensive line.
2. I like Marc Bulger, but at this point I think the guy has been hit too many times. He was making some pretty bad throws today and the pass intended to Avery that resulted in an interception was really bad. That was all his fault. Don't get me wrong, life would be a lot easier if he would function well under a solid line, but I'm just not sold on that theory whatsoever.
So I'd say draft a prospect in the 4th or later rounds and see what we can do. I'm not looking for a true franchise QB just yet, because I'm not sold on any of the QBs that are going to be drafted this year.
3. We need to not only draft offensive linemen but we need incredible FA acqusitions at whatever cost, and trades. I don't really care, trade Holt for a draft pick or a player, it doesn't matter. Things need to be turned around, and with a new owner willing to spend some money, next season might be a good one.
4. Let's see how the rest of the season pans out, but I'm not sure if Haslett is the guy, I really do like him but I'm seeing the same awful attitudes from the players that I saw with Linehan so it's really hard to say if Haslett isn't the guy or if it's a vast majority of average players bringing down the leaders, who knows...I'd love to see what that locker room looks like.
I'd love to pick up a coach who knows what he's doing and is proven, like others have said, Cowher would be great, but it's a dream more than a reality...
