Thread: Out with the old this offseason?

Out with the old this offseason?
NFL teams need veteran leadership, but that leadership needs to come from players who are still productive. In 2007, I see the Rams veteran core consisting of players like Bulger, Jackson, Holt, Bruce, Pace, Little, Witherspoon and Tinoisamoa.
Other players who are a bit long in the tooth, in my opininion, may need to go. While the Rams may not have hit rock bottom and entered a pure "rebuilding" mode, they are a team that is building toward the future, rather than trying to extend the success of the past.
So, which players no longer fit into this blueprint?
(NOTE: I've included Bruce on the list not because I think any logical person would think he's too old to be productive, but rather to account for those who believe that the Rams should let Bruce go in order to re-sign and elevate the younger Curtis to a starting role).
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: Out with the old this offseason?
I voted for Timmerman and McCollum, though I might reconsider this if either is (1) willing to restructure to free up cap space, and (2) open to a reserve role.
I also voted for Faulk, for reasons I've stated previously.
Finally, I voted for Coakley, as I think his role could be filled with youth.
I decided to keep Glover and Chavous. While both may need to accept more of a platoon role, I think that they are both productive enough to warrant keeping them for their leadership abilities.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: Out with the old this offseason?
i voted for timmerman and McCollumn, they cant stay healthy anymore... the rest should stay because they have lots of experience and we just signed corey and glover and bruce last offseason so they wont be going any where for a while

Re: Out with the old this offseason?
I would keep Glover unless we can get another pressure dt(Warren Sapp who is having a resurgence this year) but I would definetly let the donut brothers go and Coakley. Signing Coakley and Claiborne was definetly a huge mistake as we should of pursued Antonio Pierce.

Re: Out with the old this offseason?
Interesting, very interesting. :\
My vote included Glover & Coakley only [Fisk is a given to leave I suppose].
I look forward to the Rams off-season / preseason movements. We'll see.

Re: Out with the old this offseason?
Timmerman and McCollum are my two. Coakley hasnt been that bad in his time here and should be a solid backup for Tinoisamoa. If Faulk decides to come back that means he thinks he has something left in the tank. I dont expect Stephen Davis to be here next season, so it would be nice to have someone as versatile as Faulk backing up Steven Jackson.
Glover, Frerotte, and Chavous are all dependable players. And I wouldnt mind seeing them all back next season. The Roman and The Prince. Playmakers until the end.

Re: Out with the old this offseason?
This was a no brainer for me. Timmerman, McCullum, Faulk, and Coakley. Even though he's not an "old guy", I'd give Barron one more year to measure up or he's outta here.
