    P.D. RAMblings

Haslett says he liked Hill’s antics
    By Bill Coats
    ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
    Tuesday, Oct. 16 2007

On an exasperating afternoon Sunday when little went right for the winless Rams
in a 22-3 loss in Baltimore, cornerback Tye Hill found a reason to celebrate.
But was it the right time to make merry?

The Rams trailed by 16 points in the fourth quarter when Ravens quarterback
Kyle Boller spiraled a pass toward wide receiver Demetrius Williams in the end
zone. Hill, caught upfield at first, recovered quickly and broke up the
    third-and-3 play.

Hill, back after missing four games because of a back injury, raised his arms
triumphantly and thumped his chest, drawing boos from the crowd of 71,175.

While acknowledging Monday that Hill’s gesture “probably wasn’t appropriate
because of the score,” defensive coordinator Jim Haslett nonetheless said, “I
    liked it.”

“That’s showing that the kid was into the game and having fun,” Haslett said.
“He made a great play. ... I don’t think he did anything ridiculous. To me, it
showed the kid had some enthusiasm.”

Haslett indicated that Hill would resume his starting role Sunday in Seattle.

    Olson is supporting the boss

In the last six games of the 2006 season, with offensive coordinator Greg Olson calling the plays instead of Linehan, the Rams averaged 27.5 points and went 4-2. That success didn't bleed into this season, however, and after four games Scott Linehan re-assumed those duties.

"It's just a change that Scott felt needed to be made," Olson said. "Not winning is difficult. It's hard on the coaches, it's hard on the players. ... I couldn't care less about the yards, I couldn't care less about the points; I just like to win.

"That's why I'm behind Scott a hundred percent. He makes the decisions in the best interest of the team, and I support those."

    Low grade for Byrd

If you were thinking that tight end Dominique Byrd's four-catch, 44-yard outing, a career best for the third-round draft pick in '06, propelled him into the coaches' good graces ... well, think again.

"We've had hopes that he would come around, that he would get better, that he would start to show some improvement," Greg Olson said. "And he needs to get better. ... To us, he hasn't reached his potential. He needs to get there in a hurry."

Gotta love Tye Hill and his chest thumping. The Ravens fans can kiss us where the sun don't shine. Appropriate or not way to go Tye.!!!!

At this point, anything that energizes the team is important. When the losses mount up, players are liable to start losing confidence.

    Good for him!

What did they expect him to do, hang his head in shame and meekly accept the spanking?

    More of the same please!
