Re: Pace V Slater

Slater played a lot of his career at right tackle which is something to keep in mind.

I vote pace. He is clearly a better pass blocker and while i believe big jackie was a better run blocker, i think the opponents are better today than what slater played against.

What a pair of bookends those two would have been! Lets hope alex barron exceeds the level of Irv Pankey, who was big jackie's partner for many years and was an excellent tackle in his own right.

Re: Pace V Slater

man...Jessica or Eva.....Jessica or Eva....

this is another one of those questions like either Jessica Simpson or Eva L. Right now, Slater gets my vote but ask again when Pace starts in his 20th year as a Ram.

Re: Pace V Slater

Slater: 6-4" 280 lbs.
Pace: 6-7" 325 lbs.

BIG difference in mass and height among big men.

Not that I know much about the fundamental techniques for a great OT but, it would seem to me that Jackie Slater probably had a slightly better method in keeping defenders out of the way, given the physical differential.

:angryram: We're just so fortunate to have both Rams in our past and present lineup!

RAMFANLarry - is sitting in the middle of the road
Re: Pace V Slater

Your comparing apples and oranges, Slater was a right tackle and Pace a left tackle, Slater played predominantly in a running offense and Pace in a passing offense. As great as Jackie was he was a mid-round pick who didn't start until his fourth year compared to Pace who was the number 1 overall pick, Slater in my opinion was a beast of a run blocker with Larry Allen type strength for a tackle, Pace clearly the more athletic and better technician and more fluid natural ability a true shut down tackle in the mold of Anthony Munoz and Ron Yary a couple of SC guy's. I would give the edge to Pace because of his athletic ability. Were so blessed to have both of them wear Ram horn's, and Pace will eventually wind up in Canton with Jackie.

Drew4EverRams - if doing towards the "whinee side"
Re: Pace V Slater

began watching the rams in 83` so didnt get to see slater when he first came out, plus as some have pointed out there were a few differences in their style of play, position etc.... RT is often seen as easier to play than LT and LT more important in the case of protecting the QB,also in general id say slater had better players playing alongside him on the O-line,pace has had some good players alongside him but in some years hes been the only really talented member of the O-line!

slater better than pace on the running game, pace better at pass protection, both filled the needs that were required of them during their eras!

slater played for 20 seasons,i think i`ll try and decide who was the best when orlando hangs up his gear!

either way they are both ram legends!

Again, we are comparing players from different eras. Different play, different techniques, different rules. I loved Slater for his intensity and leadership. Pace is one he!! of a good lineman. I'm just glad we can call both of them RAMS.

Re: Pace V Slater

this is a great question, tough but great, being a rams fan has allowed us to watch 2 of the best o-lineman to play the game, which one is better,i dont know. one played 20 years and the other is still playing,to early to tell, hopefully 10-15 years from now we can add alex barron to this question.
