FRESNO — Fresno State football coach Pat Hill interviewed for an NFL head coaching position with the Houston Texans, a Texans spokesman confirmed Monday.
Hill also has interviews scheduled with the St. Louis Rams and New Orleans Saints this week, the San Francisco Chronicle reported today. Hill has spoken with the Raiders, but no formal interview has been set.
Hill arrived in Houston on Sunday night and left Monday evening to attend the American Football Coaches Association convention in Dallas. He's the seventh candidate to interview with the Texans.
"Pat Hill is the only college coach that we spoke to," Texans spokesman Tony Wyllie said by telephone. "We knew he was going to be going to Dallas for a convention, so we had him stop by for an interview.
"We understand he's been approached by other teams, and we're just happy he took the time to sit down with us. We consider him a legitimate candidate."
Hill didn't return messages left on his cellular phone.
Hill told his coaching staff he was going to interview for three NFL jobs, according to two sources close to the program.
In an interview Saturday, Hill confirmed he has been contacted by the Saints and other NFL teams with head coaching vacancies but wouldn't confirm any interviews were scheduled or identify the other teams.
New Orleans has interviews lined up with three candidates this week but hasn't announced a pending interview with Hill.
Raiders spokesman Mike Taylor, when asked Monday if Hill had an interview scheduled, said, "That's not the case," and that the Raiders hadn't begun interviewing candidates.
