    Pat Kirwarn on Marc Bulger

Marc Bulger passed for over 4,300 yards last season to go along with 24 touchdowns and only eight interceptions. That's the same number of touchdowns as Brady, with four fewer picks. Does he deserve a Tom Brady contract? The market keeps going up, but Tom Brady money?

Probably, but he might have to go elsewhere to get it in 2008. The Rams love their QB, but I suspect the club and the player reps really can't see eye to eye on contract value right now. If both sides wait to play out the season, one side is sure to be quite disappointed.

There are offensive weapons all over the Rams roster -- Torry Holt, Issac Bruce, Steven Jackson, plus the addition of TE Randy McMichael and WR Drew Bennett. If the Rams make the playoffs and Bulger throws 30 touchdowns, the franchise tag would be the only way to prevent his departure. No team really wants to take a $12 million cap hit. If the club looks at deals like Matt Hasselbeck's, Chad Pennington's or even Brett Favre's, there could be some problems.

Bulger is 30 years old -- which isn't a problem for a franchise QB and barring a major injury, he should play out a five-year deal -- but can both sides agree on a deal that averages over $10 million a year? If the Rams can't see that deal as the right deal, where will they turn in 2008?

Well, there seems to be a school of thought that Dante Culpepper could lead this team to the promised land.

I tend to not be of that particular school, but it is out there...lol

There are a lot of people who know, or think they do, more than I do about the inner machinations of the Rams organization but I can't see how they could let their Golden Child walk away.

Bulger DOES deserve the going rate!!! and will get it......... he isn't going anywhere, I'm sure they are putting the finishing touches to his contract as we speak and it will be announced before camp..... YOU DON'T let your franchise QB walk!!!

If you read on a little bit, it states Kirwan's belief that Bulger is a lock to be signed before next season.

I'd bet you're right. But that's why they call them negotiations. Fortunately, Bulger's not a Poston or Rosenhaus stable boy; Zygmunt and Condon reportedly have an excellent working relationship.

IMO, this one's signed/sealed/delivered (I'm yours, oooh baaaby.....but I digress) by the end of training camp.

Guys like Brady, Farve and P Manning all have rings and are regulars in the playoffs. Even Hasselback played in the bowl, I bet Marc signs for somewhere between 8-9 million a year.

That theory would hold up had Drew Brees not signed a $10 million per year deal ($60 million total) last year as a free agent. Prior to that signing, Brees only had one playoff appearance, a loss in 2004.

Also worth noting is that the cap has gone up since brees signed his deal.

No way we let him go, and never for a Dante Culpepper. Bulger will take this team where Culpepper can't.

Don't worry about a contract, it's on its way. I would just relax, even though this is one of the more boring parts of the offseason.
