    Pats interested in S-Jax?

During a recent appearance on the B.S. Report with ESPN.com's Bill Simmons, former NFL executive Mike Lombardi of the National Football Post discussed the possibility of the St. Louis Rams trading Steven Jackson before Tuesday's trade deadline.

The idea is intriguing, and Lombardi notes that the Rams could leverage Jackson in a trade similar to what the Dallas Cowboys did with Herschel Walker 20 years ago. Unfortunately, Lombardi says that the trade is somewhat unlikely, because unlike the other leagues, in the NFL selling off at the deadline sends a bad message to fans. The implication is that it will be tough to sell tickets to fans when they know that management has given up on trying to win this season.

But Simmons did propose a trade on behalf of the New England Patriots that Lombardi said, "the Rams would definitely think about." In this hypothetical world, the Patriots would send the Rams Laurence Maroney, the Oakland Raiders' first-rounder in 2011 that they got for Richard Seymour, and one of their own second-rounders for this upcoming April.

Jackson-to-the-Pats is a pretty unlikely scenario, but that would certainly shift the balance of power in the AFC back to Foxboro, would it not?

    Per ESPN Insider.

Not going to happen and I don't want the Rams to move Jackson, but if they WERE going to move him, the Pats might be the place to send him. They have more draft picks than any other team in the next two drafts.

that would be one of the worst trades in NFL history if the Rams did that. Not enough draft picks or players and Maroney has shown nothing in this league

Like I said in the chat...

    -Jackson wants to stay.
-We have no RBs to replace Jackson
    -Jackson is our offense.

    Not worth it.

trading Jackson away would guarantee us an 0-16 season.

SJ to NE would have to include NEs 2 #1s & 3 #2s and their special league status to allow cheating and press from DBs past 5 yds and nobody is allowed to every touch Bulger again, even his girlfriend.

I agree 100% with you but the reason this has some merit is

1- doesn't matter what Jackson wants

2-they would be sending us a RB in the trade to replace Jackson

3-We have no offense so are we losing alot ?

as I said I am totally against it, but you never know.

number 3: we have no offense this year, but next year when it comes to trying to win again, we'll be dealing with Maroney.

Hey I agree it would be a bad move, but I can understand why it would be considered.

Nope, won't happen. The Rams need to put butts in the seats and sell jerseys, without Jackson that WILL NOT HAPPEN.

Hence the "B.S. Report". Wonder what B.S. Stands for. I'm tired of hearing trade talks involving S-Jax. Why would we consider trading our best player? That would be the ultimate sign of quit I've ever seen. It won't happen people.

Not that I want to trade Jackson .... but it would take alot more than that.

    Re: Pats interested in S-Jax?

I would jump all over that were it more than speculation. One thing the Rams don't have to worry about is they're fans knowing they've given up trying to win this year because any realistic Ram fan knows it doesn't matter whether they've given up or not. They are just not a team (at this moment) that is going to win much regardless of the effort.

Whether it could happen is certainly anybody's guess, but as far as compensation goes, the Rams would be foolish not to look into it.

The Raiders 1st will no doubt be a top ten pick, which would mean 2 picks in the top ten for a team that is admittedly in rebuilding mode. How they could pay them is certainly a concern, but one I'd love to have.

There certainly is the potential to get rich quick IMO.
