I like the fact that fans are cool and calm just now, wait till the first game. When the Rams, competing as hard as they can but still getiing on the wrong side of the score board. I just hope that those calm and cool heads will still be there and that fans DO remember that this is now a new franshise with a new direction. That sort of thing takes time, I am afraid. As Bernie says, this team is an expancion team .... kind of true I suppose.

Even if you want to continue with the simplistic %s , consider that the 39.6% retained by the new regime includes about half the projected starters, many at key spots & on whom most fans would say success in the near future depends, and a number of projected significant contributors. I seriously doubt that was true at the start of the first full DeSpags year of 2009. and two, SJ and Long, are critical carryovers that pre-date both regimes.
And you've gotta be waterboarding yourself with the Kool-Aid to not see that the other half of the new projected starters/significant contributors are made up of a pretty equal number of guys to the DeSpags 2009 roster who are complete unknowns,obvious stop gaps, and injury gambles.Younger is a fact, better is a projection.
I think there are plenty of reasons to believe that the Fisher/Snead Rams are starting from a much stronger position than DeSpags did in terms of talent & undoubtedly better off in salary cap terms.
Dez, I don't think people will mind the Rams losing if they are competing as hard as they can. That's not necessarily what we have seen over the past few years though, especially last year.Quote:

I do not expect any miracles this year. This article affirms what I have felt since end of last year. I stick with my prediction of 4 victories this year BUT I do expect to see fundamentals pick up and bone head errors go down. If we play competitive football, week in and week out, I will be happy.
I think next year, if the above progress is made could be a season where we could really come out and do some damage.
I dunno... looking at the list of schools that our players come from don't exactly make me feel all warm and fuzzy. I know each guy is different and neither school nor conference, and not even FBS/FCS always makes a difference. However, I find it somewhat worrysome that we feature very few players from the typical powerhouse schools and from the SEC in general.
We have more players(2) who played at Virginia last year than we do players who played at either BCS Championship team... at any time(Brockers).
I hope that it's just a funny thing I noticed... but when the SEC fields teams that might have more claim to be an NFL team than...well... us, not having a lot of their players is possibly worth noting.
Teke, in years past i cant even recall 1 sec player we even drafted. Me and a friend have had this convo after every draft in recent memory. We have complained to each other about the lack of sec players, skill players, and fast players that the rams draft. Even though we drafted just 2 this year, thaat is 2 more than the past 3yrs or maybe more.
Just keep in mind that just because they played well in the SEC doesn't mean they are any good.

Where one went to college often has little bearing on their future prospects as a pro. We have drafted plenty of guys over the years from big schools who completely sucked. Tye Hill, Jimmy Kennedy, Adam Carriker, Bill Hawkins, Frank Stams, Alex Barron and on and on. Meanwhile a guy like London Fletcher- John Carroll State College- is still going strong.Tim Tebow is regarded as one of the best players in the history of college football, went to an SEC school, yet is a marginal pro, at best.
TALENT is the name of the game, and you can find it in places other than the SEC.
