    Peter King: Monday Morning Quarterback

From Peter King: The national media is starting to bite!

    THE AWARD SECTION

    Offensive Player of the Week

Donnie Avery, WR, St. Louis. By all measure, Andre Johnson of Houston has been better in October. Except one: explosive plays. Avery, the rookie second-rounder who likely will replace Torry Holt long-term as the Rams' deep threat, burned the Patriots Sunday just like he burned the Cowboys last week, streaking down the left side and catching a deep Marc Bulger throw. Against New England, the 5-11, 184-pound Avery had six catches for 163 yards and a 69-yard touchdown. Watch him run. He looks like his feet barely touch the ground.

Wow. Thats pretty impressive. I hope that he continues to grow.

He had two big games in a row and I hope to see more from him.

He had a pretty good catch against Washington also.

What is impressive is how close he came to having three times as big a game against Dallas then his final stats showed in that game.

Its no coincidence that the one game in which the Rams' offense really clicked (against Dallas) was also the one game in which Avery started AND Jackson was given 20+ carries.

Pretty simple formula: have two playmakers that force the defense to overcommit to one, then hit them with the other.

And sooner or later Holt's either going to man up and start doing his part, or Burton's going to feel the competition and assert himself as well.

I really think Holt is doing his part. The opposing defenses are blanketing Holt which is leaving Avery in one on one coverage. I'm expecting Burton to start taking advantage of this situation too.

Things are looking up for our RAMS!
