Peter King: Rams "expected" to hire Gregg Williams as DC
Per rotoworld
Wow...is all I can say.According to SI's Peter King, the Rams are "expected" to hire Gregg Williams as defensive coordinator under Jeff Fisher.
Williams is coordinating the Saints' defense in the playoffs, but his contract is up after the season and he is a longtime pal of Fisher. Williams would keep St. Louis' 4-3 alignment in place. He's known for heavy blitzing. It's fair to wonder if Eagles DL coach Jim Washburn might join Williams and Fisher in St. Louis. Washburn's "Wide-9" scheme may not mesh well in Philadelphia if the Eagles hire Steve Spagnuolo as defensive coordinator.

Yes, absolutely would be thrilled with this. Fisher's hiring should lead to some exciting possibilities for assistant coaches. Let's enjoy the ride.

Honestly I'm more excited about getting Gregg Williams than Jeff Fisher.

Re: Peter King: Rams "expected" to hire Gregg Williams as DC
Me too. Gregg is one of the best defensive minds in the NFL. The only reason I wanted Spags here was for DC because I thought we'd be downgrading. Turns out if we land Williams it'll be an upgrade.
Top 3 DC for sure. Lebeau, Williams, and Capers.
I'd LOVE to see what Williams could do with some of our pieces. Perhaps he can persuade Aubrayo Franklin to follow him here.

Williams at DC.

Re: Peter King: Rams "expected" to hire Gregg Williams as DC
I always liked Gregg Williams as a DC. He was too conservative on offense as a head coach, but he's very, very good on defense.

Re: Peter King: Rams "expected" to hire Gregg Williams as DC
Completely agree. This to me feels like a set up for proven OC and DC along with a real HC concerning with gameplan and playermanagement. That to me is a real positive. Seeing what we had in recent years. Don't want to make Vermeil comparison but the set up right now feels like back then.

I couldn't agree with you more! It sounds like JF is going to attract the type of coaching staff that we've been missing for so many years. I feel like we're getting "brand names" rather than "generics or store brands". In all honesty I had soured on JF for several days, but the moral of the story is don't make decisions until you have all the facts. Way to go Stan and Kevin!
Go Rams!
Go Rams!
