Re: Peter King: Rams "expected" to hire Gregg Williams as DC
This is all part of why I wanted Fisher so bad. He will put together an allstar coaching staff.

So now that the "Fisher saga" is behind us, does this mean the "Williams watch" has begun? Lol

Re: Peter King: Rams "expected" to hire Gregg Williams as DC
This is the benefit of getting Fisher,he has experience in the league and is respected all over. His name will bring people because he has good ties with coaches, they know he isnt here for looks he is here to win and get things accomplished.Williams as DC would be amazing my question who is gonna run the offense though??

Re: Peter King: Rams "expected" to hire Gregg Williams as DC
Gregg Williams is one of those big names who has been highly overrated. His defenses have been mostly mediocre to bad. Overly aggressive, they tend to force some turnovers but also give up more big plays than most defenses in the league. However, he was probably most consistent when he was with Fisher, so if Fisher wants him, so be it.
I do like Dave McGinnis, who is rumored to be coming in too.

Re: Peter King: Rams "expected" to hire Gregg Williams as DC
Why should we be excited over this. The saints have had a mediocre defense the past two years. The year they won the superbowl the forced an insane amount of turnovers but Williams hasn't shown that he is able to put his team in that position over the past two years.

Re: Peter King: Rams "expected" to hire Gregg Williams as DC
Good news and bad news after the Whiners win today:
Good news -- We don't have to wait until the next week or the Superbowl to begin discussions with Gregg Williams to become our new DC. He becomes one of the better options available assuming he doesn't stay in New Orleans.
Bad News -- He is one of the more overrated coaches in the league (in my eyes) and his over-aggressive schemes have cost the Saints two years in a row (Niners this year, Seahawks last year). I think he needs the right personnel to have success and while we have some pieces on defense, we still have some holes. When he sends the house, are we going to have the quality coverage to hold up? New Orleans has struggled, and they definitely have better corners than we do.
I'm kind of torn.

Re: Peter King: Rams "expected" to hire Gregg Williams as DC
They were the 25th ranked defense in the league that year and the number 1 ranked offense.
Manning was 31 for 45 for 333 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. I'd hardly say he shut him down, but they did make a couple big plays on defense in that game and that Saints team did win the Super Bowl.
Not a big fan of Gregg Williams defenses, but am a fan of Fisher, so like I said, so be it.

Re: Peter King: Rams "expected" to hire Gregg Williams as DC
Yes, Williams ran a Super Bowl winning defense a few years ago. But how? Don't you all think that it's important to know how he accomplished that feat?
One, he had an awesome offense to help him out. Brees was just like Peyton in putting the defense in a good spot most of the time. This means we'd need Bradford to regain and surpass his 2010 form in our new system. Two, he had a metric crapton of luck. They turned the ball over constantly which again set up the offense to score, or scored themselves. It wasn't a matter of that he had a dominant defense like the Jets, Ravens, Whiners bring to mind.
So yeah, if we get an offensive system that works well and we turn the ball over a bunch, Williams and Washburn can work out great. If the offense stays slow, we're probably in for an even longer year than this year.I believe!
