PFW on Bulger contract talks
June 4, 2007
Donít be surprised if QB Marc Bulgerís summer is sweetened considerably by a hefty new contract in the not-too-distant future. Bulgerís agent, Tom Condon, was sighted by team sources a few weeks back at a roast for retiring Rams executive Charley Armey, and thereís strong reason to believe he might have spent some time trying to nail down a new deal for Bulger, who is entering the final season of a four-year, $19.1 million contract and is also coming off his best season by far in a Rams uniform. It seems like yesterday that Bulger genuinely feared for his future in St. Louis, with head coach Scott Linehan dropping not-too-subtle hints that he might be interested in drafting QB Jay Cutler in his first year at the helm. These days, though, we hear Bulgerís relationship couldnít be any closer with Linehan, whose leadership style is much better-suited to Bulgerís even-keeled personality than that of Linehanís predecessor, the perpetually edgy Mike Martz.
