    point spread and weather report?

What is the opening point spread on the game and what is the projected weather for sunday. I think willard scott is on the clanram board from time to time, maybe we can get some positive weather karma, we can use all the help we can get.

Not what i was hoping to hear, although i guess that the weather cuts both ways. I was hoping the spread was closer to 4. why do i care? It has always been my view that NO ONE, not even Avenger, knows more than the bookies that set the line in vegas. Thus, the higher the spread the less chance the true experts IMO give us to win. Of course, that wont mean squat once we get on the field, strap it on and prepare to wage this holy crusade for divisional supremacy.

Not necessarily true, GC. The Vegas line isn't always a true indication of what the "experts" believe will be the winning margin.

The Vegas line is actually more a representation of what the general betting public believes to be the potential point differential. The whole object of setting a pointspread is to generate equal action on both sides of the contest so no matter who wins the game, the sportsbook, or bookies make money on the 10% charge levied on the losing bettor.

That's why if there's alot of money coming in on one side of a contest, the oddsmakers adjust the line to generate more action on the other side to balance things out.

Actually, a little rain could be good. Especially with Stephen Jackson in the backfield.

good point, with our new found running attack, we could use the rain to our advantage, but then again there running game is pretty good also.

Seahawks have covered the spread in all 4 home games played this year.

    Atlanta +3
    Arizona +4 [Could be 6?]
    Houston +9.5
    Dallas +2

Weather smeather; it was raining and very cold last year during our playoff victory in Seattle, and we still won.
I never bought into this whole, dome teams can't win in bad weather bit.

    WE WILL CRUSH THEM!

A solid ground attack with some play action thrown in....., the possibilities are endless.

With Little back and the DB's healthy we should pull this one out. :clanram:

It did sprinkle a little bit after the Hawks went ahead in the 4th during the playoff game(seemed like Divine intervention to me at the time) but just as soon as it started, it was gone

Interesting point YoDude. while i hear you on the general betting public, i am a big believer that as a percentage of total money bet on nfl games legally in vegas, a reasonably high percentage comes from professional gamblers, rather than the general public. Those big betters make the lines move and it is still IMO a reflection of what those big betters, who has lots of money to pay for any and all available information, think the outcome will be. This in part explains why injuries aside, spreads rarely move much during the week. Still, an excellent point that you raise, i am going to think about that one.

    Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers, turnovers.

Hold onto the rock, win the turnover battle, win the game.

Oh, and keep coakley and claiborne on the field. Take away Alexander and make Hasselbeck and those fumble fingered WR try and beat you.

Re: point spread and weather report?

I agree that professional gamblers probably wager a higher percentage of the total action on a game, than the casual bettor, GC, I was lumping the two together which I probably shouldn't have done.

As far as how much the line moves, you're right it's usually not a whole lot, especially for NFL games. Since there are a limited number of games every week, the oddsmakers usually do a much better job of coming up with a tight line. In the colleges however, the amount of games slated for every Saturday usually prevents the oddsmakers from devoting too much of their resources to studying each game and you can usually find a good number of soft lines. Last week I saw a college game (can't recall which one) where the line moved 4 1/2 points from between Monday and Friday. That's pretty significant if you are a gambling man.

With that said, your points are well taken.
