A point the STL media should be making right about now.
I remember last offseason reading multiple comments by the "Rams writers" in St. Louis that went something like this: "Given the ownership situation, the Rams' front office can't do much to try to improve this team."
If you take those statements as true, you have to be impressed with the results obtained by the front office despite its limited resources. Apart from the obvious acquisition of Bradford and Saffold in the draft, consider these moves:
1. Obtaining Fred Robbins as a FA - having a career year.
2. Retaining James Hall as a FA - having his best season in several years.
3. Retaining O.J. Atowe - key member of the defense.
4. Trading for Mark Clayton - helped Bradford get off to good start.
5. Signing Danario Alexander - possible diamond in the rough who has already helped Rams win two games (SD, @Den).
6. Signing Na'il Diggs - quietly having a solid season.
Maybe the STL beat writers should be mentioning this right about now?
More importantly, if you accept the beat writers' premise, shouldn't the Rams be in position for a very good offseason in 2011? Unlike the 2010 offseason, the Rams can now offer:
1. Stable ownership and the deep pockets of Stan Kronke.
2. A coaching staff that is no longer on anyone's "hot seat" lists.
3. The chance to play with emerging young stars like Sam Bradford, Chris Long and James Laurinaitis.
4. A team on the rise in a weak division.
Once this season is over, it will be interesting to see how the beat writers' spin things. Seems to me there should be a lot of optimism going into the offseason and towards 2011.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Good stuff. It's too bad they have to worry if they are actually going to have a season in 2011 though. There couldn't be a worse time for there not to be a season with the developement of this young team. Also I have no idea what I am going to do if there is no NFL next year. I still am incredibly excited for the potential of this team but it's too bad that we have to worry about the thought of there not being a season.

To Bernie's credit, he has been pretty fair in assessents and given the credit where the credit is due.

I'm surprised that the sportswriters aren't blasting the organization for NOT making all of those knee-jerk moves that "would have made us the clear cut favorites in the west", and would have made us more "competitive" or whatever.
"Just imagine if we had traded our future for VJax and claimed Randy Moss!!!! We'd be unstoppable!!!" Or, Jax would have hurt himself and Moss would have done nothing...
I'm very proud of our front office for doing their work on all of these potential guys, and even more so that they trusted what we had to get the job done. They've empowered the young guys already here to get us to the playoffs, and now we have a clear shot there AND all of our picks next year.I believe!

#1 was Bradford and 32 Saffold. Bradford will attract free agents to this team, as they know the future is all uphill. Gotta add significant talent now.
