Re: Post #2828- 28 Ramming Thoughts
Lovie did as much damage to the defense as he helped. Case in point: Jamie Duncan for London Fletcher. He let the heart and soul of the defense walk and this defense has never been the same.

Re: GC -Why the Lovie Bashing?
Hmm...I don't think a defensive mastermind should ever leave Steve Smith one on one in a playoff game. And...I don't think that Haslett...Lin's DC, would either.

That playoff game was in I think the 2nd year of Smiths career. How should he have known he would have done that?

ESPECIALLY with that speedster Jason Sehorn in coverage.

HUH? Just the one playmaker on the field for Carolina and you match him up with Sehorn?

Rams16, what does your prior post mean. Steve Smith has been a virtually unstoppable weapon in the nfl for years. Lovie left him in one on one coverage for the bulk of the playoff game this year. What is surprising about the fact that smith torched the bears with that type of coverage and where were the adjustments during the game.

Re: GC -Why the Lovie Bashing?
No I'm just saying. At that time Mushin Muhamad was to guy to watch and also Stephen Davis. We didn't know anything about Smith. But you may disagree ... As I like to say "History is history, time to look to the future"

Davis didn't play, he was hurt. MM wasn't much of a factor.

Because Lovie paid all the attention to him.

Re: Post #2828- 28 Ramming Thoughts
I'm really concerned about the offensive line. I'm hearing they are bringing the same old old guys back. The starting tackle positions are solid, but need quality back up, and the interior line is severely lacking. I'm dismayed that the Rams haven't been more aggressive obtaining free agents for the interior offensive line (although they had to address our defense understandably). Like most fans, I'm probably asking too much for my team to address ALL needs within one year. I hope that Linehan has developed an offense that will lessen the need for sustained protection, innovative pass patterns, and disguised running plays.

Well, we did pick up Steussie as back-up for the tackles. I'm glad we didn't try to outbid Minnesota for Hutchison. Bentley would have been nice. But after those two the best options available were guys like Kevin Mawai, 35; Mike Flanagan, 33; and Larry Allen, 35. We might have tried for Justin Hartwig, but I just didn't see a lot of attractive options in free agency to improve the interior line. With more quickly developing plays, more running plays, and less 4 and 5 wide sets, the line should look better. I think it will be alright if we pick up at least one more back-up in the draft. I'd rather try to do it that way than pick up guys who have probably only got a year or two left in the league.

You all are on drugs. This game was last years Bears playoff with Carolina. Davis didn't play, Muhamad was gone to another team, even Foster was hurt. The only person to stop was Smith...period.

Exactly my point that i made in the prior post martial ram, you are 100% on target. Lovie left smith one on one basically the entire game and it klled the bears. The planning was lousy and the lack of adjustment during the game would have had every single person on this board screaming bloody murder if a rams coach did the same thing.
Reputation is interesting. Actual results often differ. Go check out the record of the alleged guru denny green. What has the guy ever won? Lovie is a good coordinator, but he, like all coaches, is limited by his talent. Without uhrlacher, the bears are just a decent defense, nothing terrific at all.
