A QB needs elite, game-breaking WRs to be successful... or does he?

Tom Brady. 2010 NFL MVP.

He needed elite, game-breaking WRs to achieve that feat, right?

Um... not so much. His top 4 receivers: Wes Welker, Deion Branch, Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski.

Now, I'm not saying Sam Bradford is Tom Brady (yet), and we don't know how the Rams' rookies and second year players will pan out, but...

Does anyone here want to argue that some combination of Amendola, Avery, Clayton, Pettis, Salas, Alexander, Gibson Gilyard, Kendricks and Hoomanawanui CAN'T be as good (or even better) than those four?

Do you think maybe there's a plan here?

I think he has something up his sleeve. That or he doesn't like what he sees in our current receiving corp. He has a plan and I hope his plan works. It does look like he doesn't need speed in our receivers, except for avery.

To be an elite QB you need two things out of your receivers. 1) For them to be able to catch the ball. 2) For them to create seperation. Receivers do not need to be fast to do either of those things.

Man, catching the pass, that's crazy talk.

You can't compare Tom Brady to any quarterback in the modern era for 3 reasons.

#1 he inherited a super bowl roster when we took over as QB.

#2 He is probably the greatest quarterback to ever play the game, and lucky enough to have one of the greatest offense coaches of all time.

#3 The Patriots have one of the best Front Offices in football that get to handpick there free agents.


Bradford is just starting and our coaching staff is stilll building up...and our FO has been below average since our last good run in 2005.

It should not take from 2005 to 2011 to turn a team around....FO stinks over last 5 years one of the worst.

Brady is nt the greatest QB to play the game. Not really even close, in my book.

That is a ridiculous statement. What does Stan Kroenke (2010), Steve Spagnuolo (2009) and Billy Devaney (2008 when he began to have real power) have to do with 2005-2008?

This is essentially year 3 of this regime. If you can't see the progress, you're just not looking.

Of course NONE OF THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH MY ORIGINAL POST WHICH YOU CONVENIENTLY AVOIDED.

The point is, the Patriots have been very effective passing the ball without a 6'2, 210 lb. WR who runs a 4.3. They use a combination of small guys (Welker, Branch) and sure handed TEs (Gronkowski, Hernandez) in a system that works. This is the same system the Rams are implementing, so maybe there's method to what you see as madness in the selection of receivers.

I think so things are lost in this thread.

#1 That NE team didn't win anything.

#2 Rob Gronkowski is probably the 2nd best Tight End in the league starting this year - a physical freak, still young and 6-6 he can block and catch.

#3 Brady is probably the best QB in history

#4 Bill Billichick is top 5 coach of all time (focus on offense)

#5 Pats front office gets draft picks and makes good picks year after year.....

but firstly, Tom Brady is the exception...not the rule...

secondly, it depends what you feel successful is.....

You preach Vick has not been successful but yet I think he has the most successful QB in the league not to win a Super Bowl...

Still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest.

You forgot something... A QB also needs his his receivers to be on the field, not on the DL.

Right, because the Patriots players sip a magical elixir before every game that makes what they do impossible to duplicate...

There is nothing special about what the Patriots do. They have an excellent leader in Brady and receivers that fit a scheme. Dress it up any way you want, but that's all it is at the core. With this draft, we've shown that we're building a similar offense. And we can likely expect similar results down the road.

I have to say, your method of arguing your position in the last couple of days has been less than admirable.

Nobody said the Rams are going to 4 Super Bowls, or that Bradford will be the league MVP in 2011, or anything of the like.

The point, which you keep missing/avoiding, is that a team can have an elite passing game without prototypical elite WRs. The key is to have receivers that fit within the system.

No, the key is to have a HOF Quarterback but I am hoping Bradford can develop into something great. You can't judge Bradford on last year.
