A QB Stats Quiz (with a point)
I calculated the average stats (completions-attempts-yards-TDs-Ints) per game started for six active NFL QBs.
See if you can match the stats to the players (all numbers rounded up or down to nearest whole number):
Players
Trent Green
Tom Brady
Matt Hasselbeck
Marc Bulger
Jake Delhomme
Brett Favre
Stats
(1) 20-33-231-2-1
(2) 18-31-228-2-1
(3) 22-35-271-2-1
(4) 21-34-243-2-1
(5) 20-32-234-1-1
(6) 20-34-259-2-1
And, yes... there is a point to this!

Re: A QB Stats Quiz (with a point)
Okay, I've had enough responses that my point has been proven, so here are the answers:
(1) 20-33-231-2-1 Tom Brady
(2) 18-31-228-2-1 Jake Delhomme
(3) 22-35-271-2-1 Marc Bulger
(4) 21-34-243-2-1 Brett Favre
(5) 20-32-234-1-1 Matt Hasselbeck
(6) 20-34-259-2-1 Trent Green
Now, the point...
And, no, its not an attempt to argue which of these QBs is the best...
In about a month, the NFL Preview magazines will start hitting the newsstands. Many will have rankings of, or comment on, the NFL's best QBs. I expect that Bulger's name won't even be mentioned among them.
These stats show, however, that Bulger deserves to be mentioned among the league's best. Certainly, he needs to show better durabilitiy, and he likely won't be elevated to elite status until he wins a few more playoff games.
But to suggest that he's not a upper-tier NFL QB (which several draft "experts" implied in arguing that the Rams should take Jay Cutler) is simply not consistent with the stats.

Re: A QB Stats Quiz (with a point)
Good stuff AV.
Now that Linehan is here we will have more two TE sets and less seven step drops. I would think Marc would play all 16 games and end this year as one of the best QB in the NFL. Marc has to know when to try and make a play, sometimes as a QB the best play after a pick is to get the hell off the field.
With a good running game, better protection, shorter routes, a TE to go to, Marc will have a monster year!

Re: A QB Stats Quiz (with a point)
I agree that Bulger is among the best NFL qbs today. HOWEVER, one COULD take issue with your analysis based on the following:
1. Rest of offense makes decent QBs look better. (Fortunately, you picked mostly playoff teams, so the supporting cast is usually pretty good).
2. I would have liked to see a decimal on the TD's and INTs. There is a lot of difference between a QB who pitches 2.4 TDs and 1.0 INTs per game vs. one who provides 2.0 TDs and 1.4 INTs.
3. Strength of schedule could also be a factor.
4. There is something to be said for looking at the games. I like Kurt Warner, but he (under Martz play-calling) had no problem with running up the numbers against hapless opponents. Sort of like Sammy Sosa, who loved to hit home runs when up (or down) by seven runs. Also, if your team gets behind a lot, the defense may play prevent defense, which might also pad the numbers a bit.
That said, I think the example works, I just want to make the point that the numbers alone do not always provide all of the needed info.

Re: A QB Stats Quiz (with a point)
I agree that this analysis is far too limited to use to actually rank players. However, for my limited point - that Bulger is, at least, comparable to some of the "top" QBs in the league - I think it makes the point.
Probably the most notable aspect of the stats is that, contrary to what some might have guessed, Bulger does not, on average, throw the ball significantly more than the others, but he is well ahead of the pack in yards per game. That shows that he has been required to throw down the field more than most QBs, which obviously increases the difficulty factor.

Re: A QB Stats Quiz (with a point)
I can't stand it when people tell me that Bulger sucks, a lot of people assume like oh, the rams, oh he's not good. Bla bla, I'm sure you've all heard it before, lets face it, he's UNDERRATED, and it gets me mad, but hey what can ya do, maybe now he'll prove himself now with a better team, and coaching staff

Always and Forever a fan of the St. Louis Rams
