    Question for capologists (regarding Coakley)

With Pisa Tinoisamoa and Will Witherspoon in the fold, the one guy who does not seem to fit in the Rams' scheme is Dexter Coakley. I would expect the Rams to look for a bigger LB to man the third spot.

Which leads to a question... why did the Rams retain Coakley, while cutting Chris Claiborne?

One thought which I had is that it might be that there is some cap advantage if the Coakley's injury (which seemed extremely severe) prevents him from making the team.

Do any of out capologists know if the Rams would benefit from having Coakley leave on an injury settlement as opposed to being cut now?

Well i think Coakley is still around because of his abilities to play special teams, plus he is still a good linebacker, but he wont be starting

All of that may be true, but I find it hard to believe, given the nature of the injury and Coakley's age, that there is certainty at this point that he can make it back.

Thus, my question - is there a cap benefit to waiting?
