Raiders job could lure executive from Rams

    By Bill Coats
    ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
    05/03/2008

A key member of the Rams' front office might be joining Al Davis' operation with the Oakland Raiders. Davis is looking for a new contract negotiator and salary-cap specialist, and Samir Suleiman reportedly is a candidate for the job.

Suleiman, 32, has been the Rams' director of football operations since 2000. In that position, he assists Jay Zygmunt, president of football operations and general manager, with contracts and cap management, among other duties.

Although Suleiman failed to return a phone message Friday, he told the San Francisco Chronicle earlier that he'd be interested in the job. "It's a great organization, so anybody would be lucky to work for them," he said. "And black is my favorite color."

In that interview, Suleiman also said he hadn't talked with the Raiders.

Suleiman probably is best known to Rams fans for the voice-mail message he left for Post-Dispatch columnist Bernie Miklasz in September 2005 after Miklasz wrote that team officials including Suleiman owed then-coach Mike Martz support instead of back-stabbing him.

Miklasz reported the text of Suleiman's message: "Do me a favor. Tell your source because I don't believe they were your words but tell your source that I'm not a back-stabber, I'm a (expletive) throat slasher, and he'll know the difference before it's all said and done."

Suleiman was reprimanded by the team. "It's shocking that he would leave a message like that," Rams President John Shaw said then. "It's the type of behavior that we don't condone on any level."

In all seriousness is this something we should care about? Would this be a big loss?

Lucky to work for Al Davis?? Hopefully Suleiman moves on to Choaktown because we certainly don't need this idiot in the Rams organization. He needs to put in a good word for Shawgmunt once he gets there too.

I'd like to know a little more about this guy.

He's Director of Football Operations at age 24? Anyway you look at it , that's impressive.

And, he obviously does not do well being crossed - indicates a rather large ego. Figures his favorite color is black.

He's best known for his less than judicial comments during the last year of Mike Martz's tenure here. So he's thinking of going to Oakland, where their coach was rumored to be on the way out this spring and who is likely on the hot seat. Kinda interesting. Maybe Al Davis needs some figurative throat slashing done?

I wish we would loose a few more of these front office people. I think there opinion of themselves is higher then there production.

Wow.............What idiot would want to work for Senile Al ???

The Guy lost the Plot years ago, maybe that's what this guy see's and thus a Climb up the Ladder is what he's all about.
There's no way you'd go there for any other reason, I think this Kid is in for a shock, if he thinks he can change the way things are done there, Good Luck.

Then again, I'm sure he's figuring that Al won't be around much longer.

I don't know how this guy has a job with the Rams organization so losing him wouldn't be much of a loss.

I didn't know he still worked for the Rams. Hmm. Well, you know what they say, once you go black.....
