    Torn ligament clouds Little’s status
    By Bill Coats
    ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
    Tuesday, Oct. 23 2007

With a towel around his waist and a grimace on his face, Rams defensive end
Leonard Little limped toward the showers in the visitors’ locker room late
Sunday afternoon at Qwest Field. It was a slow and agonizing walk.

What originally was thought to be a sprain of Little’s left big toe has been
diagnosed as a torn ligament. It limited his participation significantly in the
33-6 loss to the Seahawks and could well hamper him for the rest of the season
    — if not end it.

“He’s going to have to surgery on it. Whether it’s soon or at the end of the
year depends on how well it holds up,” defensive coordinator Jim Haslett said
    Monday.

Little has had problems with the toe for some time. He aggravated it the
previous Sunday at Baltimore and didn’t practice last week. “It’s still a
concern for us, and we’ll determine (later) as to his availability this week,”
    coach Scott Linehan said.

Even though Little has recorded just one sack this season, he’d been applying
increasing quarterback pressure before the setback vs. the Ravens. His
replacement at Seattle, Victor Adeyanju, was solid; his five tackles included
two for lost yardage. But Adeyanju can’t get into the backfield like Little.

“Victor stepped in and probably played the best game he’s played, really good
    on the run,” Haslett said.

    Hall not ready to return

Don't look for wide receiver/kick returner Dante Hall to be back on the field until after the Nov. 4 bye. At the earliest.

Hall has missed two games since he was hurt Sept. 30 at Dallas. "It was a real serious high-ankle sprain," Scott Linehan said. "He tested it a little bit (Monday), and it's not ready."

    Where there's a Will ...

According to the coaches' film review, linebacker Will Witherspoon piled up 16 tackles Sunday, a career-high for the six-year veteran. His 66 stops are No. 1 on the team.

Improved line play has benefited all the linebackers, but especially Witherspoon in the middle, Scott Linehan pointed out. "It's a direct reflection of our front playing better than a year ago and keeping him free to the ball," Linehan said. "He's always had the ability to get to the ballcarriers."

Weakside linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa had 12 tackles a week after registering 15 vs. the Ravens.

The Rams have moved up to No. 18 in the 32-team NFL in total defense. But largely because of turnovers by the offense, they've given up more points (192) than any other team in the league.

    A chance for offense

At 11.3 points per game, the Rams are the NFL's lowest-scoring outfit. But they haven't had a better opportunity — statistically, anyway — to break out of their funk than Sunday's matchup with Cleveland.

The Browns (3-3) are yielding 413 yards per game, worst in the league. They're No. 27 vs. the run and No. 29 vs. the pass.

The combined passer rating for Marc Bulger and Gus Frerotte is a league-worst 58.7. ... At minus 8, the Rams are tied with New Orleans for last in turnover ratio.

I agree with Utter. Why even risk it? Have Little go under the knife now, and get to rehabbing ASAP. We'll see you next year.

I guess Pisa didn't get the memo that he was the weak link on this defense. Kid's got the heart of a lion.

Man, that's frustrating! I still can't believe the Hawks had 4 scoring drives of 16 yards per drive, including 1 drive for negative yards!!!

    That's amazing, folks!

I dont care how many tackles pisa makes, i still think he is TERRIBLE in coverage. I agree he is a warrior and a good player, but i dont understand why he doesnt improve at all on the pass defense side.
