Rams add RB Patrick to practice squad

Rams add RB Patrick to practice squad
BY JIM THOMAS | Posted: Tuesday, September 7, 2010 5:02 pm

The St. Louis Rams completed their eight-man practice squad Tuesday by adding running back Allen Patrick. Patrick was a seventh-round draft pick by the Baltimore Ravens in 2008 out of the University of Oklahoma.

Patrick has bounced around to several teams since then, most recently the Indianapolis Colts, but has yet to play in a regular-season NFL game. He spent most of his rookie season on Cleveland's practice squad, and part of '09 on practice squads in Jacksonville and with the New York Giants. Patrick, 6-1, 196, was on Cleveland's active roster the final three games of '08, but didn't see game action.

At Oklahoma, Patrick rushed for 1,906 yards over three seasons, including 1,009 as Adrian Peterson's replacement in 2007.

The Rams had four wide receivers and a safety in for free-agent workouts Tuesday. But all were in on an evaluation basis only, for future consideration if the Rams need to replace injured or under-performing players.

The wide receivers, with their most recent NFL teams in parenthesis: Derek Hagan (Giants), Jason Hill (San Francisco), Demetrius Williams (Baltimore), and Paul Williams (Tennessee). The free safety in Tuesday was Al Afalava (Chicago).

Geez, what happened to this guy? He was a 13 game starter as a rookie last year.

We needed someone and yet again as mentioned before "sooner" than later.

Sooner fans are definitely going to be Rams fans in 2010!

Hope this guy can spark something. Doesn't look like Darby will last. St. Louis Sooners anybody?

We need a REAL backup RB, how does this do anything at all? DeSpags fumbles it again! The division is ours if we only had a backup RB! GAAA! A piece of sky almost hit me on the head.

    /end sarcasm

    I just couldn't resist, I am a bad person.

Seriously, and he can collect for a whole 17 week! 17! That's almost one entire Bradford paycheck!

Edit: I am in a really weird mood right now

So we'll pretty much run a Sooner offense with Sam Bradford, Mark Clayton, and Allen Patrick while we run a Buckeye defense under James Laurinaitis, Na'il Diggs, and Larry Grant, interesting. Wonder how that'll work out?

Maybe we'll finally beat Alabama, Boise State and Virginia Tech and go to the Rose Bowl!
    I believe!

I don't know, but when i saw he was cut, and that Kevin Payne was injured, i thought we should definitely take a look. I'm glad the Rams bought him in.

Patrick was always a solid back at OU. His real problem was that he was the 2nd feature back to a guy named Adrian Peterson.

As a sooner fan, I've adopted St. Louis as my second team. I think the Rams need to go after a solid TE that can pass block and catch. It wouldn't hurt to add another receiver threat i.e. a Patrick Crayton from Dallas.

If Sam has time to throw the ball he will shred defenses. If he doesn't have time then this will be a long season. It's really as simple as that. The same holds true for Brees, Manning & Brady.

Patrick Crayton went to the Chargers a few days ago. As for the TE, Michael Hoomanawanui looks to have been a great draft pick in the fifth round this year. He can block, but can catch much better than you would think.

I didn't hear that about Crayton.. well crap. Good deal.. if he can catch and pass block that would really help.

I was wondering the same thing. This guy looked week in coverage last year but he did show signs of potential. For some reason I thought he was injured?

Ha, and TE Billy Bajema is an OU Sooner too!

Edit: Hmm, no, I take that back. BB is OState. Oh, well, Oklahoma kin.
