Re: Rams agree on terms with bell.

I said in my welcome post thread that I expect him to become a Pro Bowler soon. Anthony Munoz was his first agent and he did some offseason work with him. Also, the Titans OL coach is a Hall Of Famer(can't remember his name offhand), so he has been taught by the best. The potential is definitely there. You'll see. I take no offense to what you are saying. I just wanted to give some numbers and tidbits that maybe many do not know about my cousin and what a great player he is so that Rams fans can know more about him and what I see in him so that you can see the potential too.

slim i believe he has massive potential and i think he can form into a perenail pro bowler , i thank you for your info on your cousin, but as i said earlier, i like the signing but he is not in the same class as faneca, there is no comparison between the two

I won't argue that Bell is a better player than Faneca, but he's younger, cheaper and, most importantly, accepted our contract offer.

You're right. Faneca has a great history, proven with Pro Bowl play. Until Jacob gets some Pro Bowls under his belt, there is no comparison.

and most important...fanaca has a ring

but i like the bell signing much better, he is cheaper, younger and more hungry for a super bowl, thats just what we need

I think Rams fans will see a HUGE difference in line play on the left side with Pace (if healthy) and Jacob on that left side. I can't wait to see Jackson run to that side for some TDs!!!

If I may, a little selective editing is in order.

Re: Rams agree on terms with bell.

He's started 31 of the last 32 but only 46 of the last 64. Hopefully the healthy trend will continue but let's look at the whole picture.

Speaking of the whole picture, if the Titans had a dropback/conventional QB their success in the running game and pass protection would be off the charts. However, just like with Atlanta is recent history, you have to consider that much of their statistical succcess stems directly from Young skewing the numbers. Lendale White only averaged 3.7 ypc(Henry was better last year at 4.5 so that may be more of an indicator of White's ability) and Young was sacked 25 times in 382 pass attempts(1 sack every 15 attempts). By compariison, Brees 1/40, Anderson 1/38, Favre 1/37. The Titans ran a LOT and passed very little. That's where the rushing yards and low sacks stem from.

NOW he's overpriced. $6 million per?

Overpaid for a kicker and now a guard. Great job Rams. At least you're spending some money.

Re: Rams agree on terms with bell.

I don't think there's much to complain about regarding the size of Bell's contract. He was considered by many to be the second best offensive guard available in free agency, and we got him at a price much closer to Damien Woody and Justin Smiley than it is to Alan Faneca IMO.

Brown's contract is pretty manageable as well, and actually came in at less than I expected (I thought it'd be in the $15-18 million range). Brown got a $4 million signing bonus; for comparison's sake, Wilkins got a $3 million bonus in '05 when he resigned with us. It would appear Brown's '08 cap cost will only be slightly more than what Wilkins was going to cost us as well. For the best kicker on the market, I think that's pretty reasonable.

Overall, I'm pretty pleased by both of these signings from both a talent and financial standpoint. I think there are plenty of examples of teams overpaying in free agency thus far this season; I'm not convinced the Rams have been one of them thus far.
