It's a one year deal for Williams.

And now, I give you the chorus of Texisms, from around the world:

    Tex: "Good signing, good depth."
Dez: "Brilliant signing for a wee bit of depth. Cheers!"
CanadaRam: "Good signing, good depth, eh?"
Nick: "This signing is quite good from a historical standpoint as the following statistical analysis demonstrates that it is, in fact, good, to have additional depth."
Bar-bq: "G'day to you, Mr. Williams. Crikey, that's good depth" (Yes, we Americans base our entire view of Australians from Crocodile Dundee and the late Steve Irwin.)
Azul Y Oro: "Buena firma. Buena profundidad."
    TorontoRam: "I hate this signing!"
BernieM: "I broke the story of this signing!"

Re: Rams agree to terms with G/T Chris Williams

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the St Louis Rams have re-signed OL Chris Williams to a one-year deal worth up to $2.75 million.

    Rams re-signed G/T Chris Williams to a one-year contract.
The deal is worth "up to" $2.75 million, but Williams' base salary should be near the veteran's minimum.

The Rams helped fortify their depth on the offensive line Monday, as they agreed to terms with guard/tackle Chris Williams on a one-year deal.

Williams, who was the 14th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, was released by Chicago on Oct. 16 of last year after playing in 50 games with 38 starts in his four-plus seasons there.

The Rams signed Williams on Oct. 22 and his first week with the team actually came in London as they prepared for their game there against the Patriots.

Williams played in that game as well as the final two games of the season against Tampa Bay and Seattle following the triceps injury to starting right guard Harvey Dahl.

Williams split time with Shelley Smith in stepping in for Dahl. He was inactive the other six games he was with the Rams.

In bringing Williams back, the Rams retain a versatile player capable of playing four positions on the offensive line. Among his 38 career starts, he’s opened 20 games at left guard, 11 at right tackle and seven at left tackle as well as a pair of preseason games at left guard.

After the Rams inked Jake Long to handle the left tackle duties on March 22 and lost Robert Turner to Tennessee in free agency, the line is left with an opening at left guard as well as the need for more depth.

Williams could figure into the mix for the starting left guard job vacated by Turner along with Rokevious Watkins and Smith as well as serving in a backup role at the tackle spots.

    Lo siento mucho!

This, of course, leads to a different question...

Is the "Real" in your name intended to be the English word meaning "authentic," or the Spanish word meaning "royal"?

Slow news day or not, i think its a really good depth signing. In the cap era, you can't underestimate versatility. I really was hoping we could keep turner as well (who played guard and center), but williams still has some upside and obviously fisher liked what he saw during his time with the team last year. Not a world beater, but once less hole to fill.

    Ramming speed to all

Very good observation. It is the former, i.e., real as in 'authentic' in English; but yes, the latter is also correct as you pointed out in terms of royalty (e.g., Real Madrid in soccer) although 'ram' in Spanish is carnero.

Hmm, 'Carnero Real' ... not bad!

BTW, I kind of like the addition of CW to the Rams OL.

Let's see if Boudreau can tap his ceiling. Other than that, he's a good replacement for Rob Turner.
