Maybe people were getting impatient because Jake Long, Matt Ryan, and Darren McFadden have all signed, I dunno. But going by past precedent, Long's actually a bit early in terms of being a top five pick agreeing to terms on a deal.

I'm anxious to see how he looks in camp.
NO! People just now the Rams, and the way they seem F everything up.

You're right in that by past precedent that Chris may be early, however, for this year he's somewhat late. Both #1 and #3 have been signed for a good while and those should have set the terms pretty well, even if the deals were for differing lengths. But that's exactly what we saw here, right? A 5 year deal with a team option 6th year.

In any case, my point was, that given Chris' attitude and the guidance from his father, I was expecting that Chris would sign early, especially given that the guys surrounding him were signed. If I was a betting man I would have bet he would have been in the fold before July. In the end, it doesn't matter because he'll be there for all of camp. All that's left is for me to get me a Long jersey! I expect great things from him through the years.

Fantastic. I hope he has a fantastic rookie season, and gets better thereafter.

(As is the case with many of the top deals, Long has a sixth year, but it is voidable, meaning the best way to compare deals is to compare the years of the contract that are not voidable.) I'm told the deal is a couple of million below Jake Long's five-year, $50-million contract (incentives push Jake's deal to $57.5 million, but they're not a part of his base or bonuses), with very similar guaranteed money. That would put Chris Long's guarantees at around $29 million. Good deal for Chris Long. Eye-rolling deal, another one, to many GMs in the league.
The guarenteed money isn't spiked that much higher...wonder how much he gets in total dollars (potentially).

Re: Rams agree to terms with top pick Long

Excellent news! We needed him in camp on time and he wanted to be there.

Now, he needs to knock the rust off of Pace and make us more competive on both side of the line at the same time.

Things are going to start gettiing very exciting around here real soon. I can't wait for the fun to begin!

GO RAMS!!!
