I didn't watch him in college, so difficult for me to say whether he has always played like that or not

This is sounding like the Bulger argument in 2007 and 2008. Anyone that pointed out his play wasn't really good enough, got shot down and attacked because it was unquestionable to think Bulger wasn't great. We got bizarre stats showing Bulger wasn't the problem. Then in 2009 it became obvious and we were supposed to forget the previous 2 years of standing up for him. It's the O-lines fault. No it's the receivers fault. No the running backs. Wait have we blamed the coaches? Certainly was never Bulger's fault. (Wins and losses can be the fault of everyone else, not whether HE'S good or bad)

Sam played well in 2013, it was his best season. He must still show significant improvement or he'll never garner another major contract with the Rams.

Y/A are irrelevant IMO. As long as we win that's all that matters. Whether that's dink and dunk, or smash-mouth run it 50 times a game.

At Oklahoma over three years his Y/A was 9.4. At Stanford Andrew Luck over three years 8.9. Luck career so far in the NFL, Y/A 6.85 and most fans think he's elite.

Luck certainly doesn't strike me as a conservative QB, so these stats help contradict the notion that conservative play and Y/A are closely related.
