Isn't Bakersfield the town where Clint Eastwood took his orangutan, Clyde, to the zoo to get a little monkey (ape) lovin' in "Any Which Way You Can"?

That's correct. Of course, we don't actually have a zoo. Ah, the magic of movies.

Bakersfield's also where Schwarzenegger's character from the Running Man was from (the Butcher of Bakersfield).

Also, the portapotty from Castaway with Tom Hanks was labeled "made in Bakersfield".

Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, a couple of guys who've made it to the NFL (Ken Ruettgers, David Carr as well as some Rams and Raiders that I can't remember right now).

The infamous witch hunt trials that dominated the media back in the '80's(an apparent web of child abuse and worse, never substantiated) started in Bakersfield and spread throughout the country.

I'm sure there's some other notable things that I'm forgetting.

Hey Shades, (I grew up in Oildale so I'm allowed to tell this):
"What do you call 22 women in Oildale?"

    "A full set of teeth!"
We're proud of our hillbillies, Oakies and rednecks. Hey, that reminds me, Kevin Harvick and Rick Mears are from Bakersfield for all of you racing enthusiasts.

Which reminds me to look for a new set after the other one got broken from fallin' face down trying to make a tackle - over the woman for the last piece of pizza that is. Wish I had a picture of that.

Bakersfield is a dump, but obviously they have nice people. If you want to move upscale, move to Salinas.

Brock Marion who played saftey for the Cowboys and Dolphins graduated from West in 1987...Corey Hall who plays SS for the Falcons graduated from South in 1996...Micheal Stewart who played for the Rams and Dolphins graduated from BHS...Brent McClanahan play RB for the Vikings for 8 seasons graduated and teaches with me here a South High...It's a football rich town...Jacob Hickson from Centennial just got a full ride to Nebraska...I went North for about a year and a half and had an 08 zip code(Olive Drive)..so I guess I got a little Oildale in me...
