Rams being lead by a Defensive Coordinator

With Haslett being our new headcoach taking into consideration his past headcoaching experience but more so his defensive background. I pose the question. Who was our last headcoach with a defensive background? Seems like it's been a long time since we've hired a defensive minded coach to take the reins of our team.

Rich Brooks was a defensive minded coach.

I am befuddled by the choice, personally.

It's not like our defense has been doing noticeably well. Granted they seem to be improving, but....

I guess all we can do is improve!?!?

Mike Martz was completely defensive-minded. He was also big on ball control offense, precision time management, and only challanging plays when it was abosolutely obvious that it would be overturned.

okay, okay, I'm still laughing over that one moloch. Would have rep'd U but have to spread it around.

What was the question again? ...Oh yeah, "Seems like it's been a long time since we've hired a defensive minded coach to take the reins of our team.".

Defensive-minded coach? Defensive minded coach.... let's see.....
...Oh, you're not talking about Haslett? No, really, what "defensive minded" coach are you talking about? ...really. ...come on, stop joking.

Can't think of one myself. But Hasslett at least has leadership skills--something sorely needed. In order to be a DC, you have to inspire your defense to put a 100% effort all the time (or true too anyway). The offense has the advantage of knowing where they intend to go with the ball and forces the defense to react.

The state of the Rams defense ought to have been a clue to its weakness when then DC Lovie Smith had to resort to a bend but do-not break style of D. Now he runs an attack style defence over in Chicago.

At least a DC knows an opponents defense and ought to know what plays they are vunerable too. It will be interesting to see how the Rams play the Cowboys

I believe that would be Malavasi.

The guy who replaced Allen .

The last time The Rams changed HC during a season.

Led The Rams to their first Superbowl.

    Fu%#$g Bradshaw.

How old are you guys, anyway?

Granted, Ramblin' Ram. During preseason, I believe.

What a great team that was...sigh, Still, Ray M was a DC & he led The Rams to the NFC title game that year & then The SB,no?

    The Youngbloods,Fred Dryer,Cullen Bryant...so many memories.

    Wasn't Klosterman still the GM?

My late father used to talk about The Duke of Del Rey.

What would the Eighties have been with Klosterman & Steve Rosenbloom in the FO ? Bet they'd have given The Whiners a run for their money.

Suffice it to say, there was never much said in our house about Georgia that could be repeated in mixed company.

Re: Rams being lead by a Defensive Coordinator

Since you are counting Haslett as a defensive head coach for the Rams, being he is interim, then we are forgetting about our last interim head coach, Joe "I chew gum" Vitt. Linebackers coach and asst. coach who took over after martz got "ill" in 2005.

Re: Rams being lead by a Defensive Coordinator

Since the Rams organization has taken great pains to say , per the St Louis media, that the word "interim" isn't part of the deal, albeit at Haz's insistence & maybe they're just humoring him,so I don't think Vitt's brief stint in the hotseat counts.

Vitt was clearly a caretaker but I get the impression that it is Haslett's job to lose.

Not saying it's a good thing, just sayin'...
