Four-time Pro Bowl RB Ahman Green worked out for St. Louis this week as the team examines its options at the position.
The Rams have Steven Jackson, a 2007 Pro Bowler, as their starting running back, with Kenneth Darby, Samkon Gado and Antonio Pittman as the experienced backups behind him.
Green, who endured two injury-plagued seasons with the Texans, is one of several high-profile running backs still on the market, including Edgerrin James, Shaun Alexander and Warrick Dunn. All have had a tough time finding work this offseason, although NFL.com’s Steve Wyche reports that Dunn received calls from the Eagles and Seahawks.
Green was a powerhouse player for the Packers from 2000 to 2006, but he hasn’t had more than 300 yards in a season since 2006, which was his last 1,000-yard campaign.
Green has 9,045 rushing yards in 11 seasons with the Seahawks, Packers and Texans. He also has six 1,000-yard seasons in his career.

I guess the opportunity was there to look at Green, but you'd think a verteran WR would be higher on the radar with the way things have been going lately.
Re: Rams bring in veteran RB Green for workout
looks like we're beefing up the running game.
Re: Rams bring in veteran RB Green for workout
As said in the article, he's been hurt the past two years in Houston. I'm all for training camp bodies, but not sure if he'll even be signed. If he's able to stay healthy he can do some good for us.
At the least, this should make those other RBs (Gado, Darby, and Pittman) really step it up in their competition.
Re: Rams bring in veteran RB Green for workout
I'd rather nab shawn alexander, and watch him run all over the seahawks, you know he would have a good day against his old team. Not as good as he once was, but as good once as he ever was. :)
I was never really impressed with green even during his prime, always seemed like he was fumbling at critical points in the game. But hey I'm always up for second chances, lets bring him in and see what he has left.
Re: Rams bring in veteran RB Green for workout
this isn't very exciting news to me, i would much rather have brought in some fresher younger legs myself. but atleast it's creating more competion, hopefully Gado steps up and takes control of the backup role.
Re: Rams bring in veteran RB Green for workout
Man with so many other problems that this team needs RB should not be one of them.
No real proven talent at receiver, Maybe look at any tight ends that may be out there. And lets not get started on the defense side of the ball.
The Rams and Spags have both said that they want to get younger hence why they got rid of Tory Holt and O Pace, And probally why they are not looking at Marvin H. Or why not look at a guy like Matt Jones.

How old is Ahman Green? I thought he was just injury prone... of course, I guess age and injury riddled go hand in hand. It does seem odd to trade Pace because of injuries and then sign a free agent RB who's also injury prone. It's almost like they want a north south runner or something.. Dunno.
I kinda like Sam (ohmy!) Gado for obvious reasons. Another cool thing, madden released latest update and Gado is now the backup... lol

Re: Rams bring in veteran RB Green for workout
Man i love watching that Gado TD
hits the hole fast but that move he puts on the safety is Faulk-esque
Re: Rams bring in veteran RB Green for workout
I think I'd pass - besides, his QB rating is way too low. ;)
Re: Rams bring in veteran RB Green for workout
Old. Fumbles. Injury prone. Why do we want this guy again? I'm sure his pass protection's better, but there's fresher and less injury prone legs out there, like Edge or even Alexander. Pass pass pass!
Re: Rams bring in veteran RB Green for workout
Man that move was nasty....

I agree. And besides, what if you have to use him to punt in Madden? It won't go more than 5 yards...if that!
You can't have that, not at all!
Re: Rams bring in veteran RB Green for workout
Personally, i think that Mean Joe Greene can help this club more than Ahmand Green. Pass.

I don't think it's odd at all, because Pace was making nearly $6 million in salary whereas Green would probably join for the vet minimum. That's a big difference!
That being said, with Gado, Pittman, Darby, and Ogbonnaya, it's hard to believe we need to add another RB. Makes me wonder if there's something the Rams feel is missing from everyone in the current crew.
