    Blitz pickup anyone?

I believe Green was always noted for being excellent in this area. Maybe giving him a look as the third down back? Maybe just bringing him in as an example to show the other younger guys how it is done ...

I am sure Ahman really wants a job, so he will come in here, and be very fired up. This coupled with him veteran presence should force the younger crowd to kick it up a notch, if anything, because they fear losing their job to the more polished vet ...

That's sort of what I was thinking as well, but I really don't have much recollection of how well Green does in that area.

Yes...I know this is from 2000, but it might be some sort of indication....

Green breaks out as a No. 1 runner
    Thursday, December 21, 2000

    Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

....Since losing a fumble at Tampa Bay, Green has had 236 consecutive touches without losing another one. The biggest testament that Green is becoming a complete back was quarterback Brett Favre raving about the running back's performance in the Packers' 26-13 defeat of Detroit at Lambeau Field.

Green had 113 yards against Detroit and scored two touchdowns, but Favre was most impressed by Green's blocking on blitz pick-ups.

"His pass blocking, which most people wouldn't notice, was as good as I have seen by a back in this offense," Favre said. "Several times it was guys he didn't have to pick up, he just kind of felt the guy coming."

Nice find OldSchool. Definitely shows that back in the day he was a really good blocker. I understand that we can't have blitzes get through to Marc, but I think grabbing Green is just a little overboard. He's not exactly young, and would take a roster spot of someone who could actually use the time to improve. He won't be getting better at this point, he is what he is.

Why not hire him as a RB blocking coach?

He's 32 and is constantly hurt. Even when healthy, he hasn't been special for a long time. If all you want is a blocking RB, I think you have that on the roster in Karney and Darby. Don't let one game make the decision for you on Darby. He was solid at blitz pickup last year but the coaches weren't here then. He'll get that part of the job done.

Ahman Green merely on Rams “ready list,” no signing imminent
    By Jim Thomas
    St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Free agent running back Ahman Green visited Rams Park on Wednesday, team officials confirmed to the Post-Dispatch. But no signing is imminent. He is simply on the St. Louis Rams’ “ready list” of potential players to consider if the team suffers an injury at the position or decides to make a move.

I have to agree, how about a WR,unless they plan on running the ball 50 times a game.

No.. I couldn't sign Green for the vet minimum in Madden 10.

Re: Rams bring in veteran RB Green for workout

If we want a pure blocker on third down I suppose we could always put in one of our backup O-linemen at the RB spot (actually that may not be such a bad idea at all IMO). Green would have to provide more than just blocking to make this roster - he would have to at least be a somewhat credible receiving option if we're looking at him as a third-down back. Earlier in his career he was a pretty good receiver - usually hauling in 40-50+ receptions per year, maybe he is still servicable in that role. Overall I think it's highly unlikely he makes the roster though.

I doubt we sign him. Even if its for a veteran player, Jackson holds that role. Lets get a WR if anything...

Devaney, if you care about this team... fire the offensive coordinator!!!!

Rams still seem to be standing firm on bringing in another receiver, Maybe they are waiting to see what they have before they do who knows.
