Rams Cause for concern!!

why does it seem like we always pass on the best defensive free agents???
we always go for the low profile guys, we need to get great free agency additions in here, like nate clements, why do we always pass guys like this up it seems like were scared to improve our defense, and it really p***es me off, why can't we just once bring in a major defensive player. because we can not build through the draft, we simply don't have the time, holt can't stay 30 forever. we need to quit being a pussy and go get the players that we need, we can't just get two defensive guts and 5 offensive guys, todd johnson is an unproven player who will probably not help us at all, and james hall was injured, he needs to step up, if we are going to get out of the bottom half of the league in defense, I get so mad when I see tully bant-cain come here for a visit, and just when it appears we have him, we let him leave and go to san fransisco to sign a 3 year 8 million dollar contract, what are we doing?? we are not improving our defense at all. we better have a great draft, thats all I'm saying.

Re: Rams Cause for concern!!

I'd rather pass up on Clements than pay that much for him, the guy's making more than Champ Bailey and he doesn't deserve it. It's been said 100 times already, which free agents would you like us to pick up? This was a weak free agency period.

Re: Rams Cause for concern!!

No offense but the besides Thomas and Clements the best defensive players this year are terrible. People are paying 10 million dollar signing bonuses to players with an average of 5 sacks a year. I am extremely glad that we did not overpay any of the mediocre free agents this year. We were very smart in free agency. We signed, or traded for high reward low risk players(besides Bennett) and didn't pay a ton for players who have produced nothing.

I totaly agree, but why didint we atleat try to get Adalius Thomas?? why did we let Banta-Cain sign with the Whiners?? although I am glad SJ will run him over next year. but All I am saying is that we should try harder, granted this years FA sucked< but remember back a couple of years ago, the only person we signed was chris chandler, a darn 40 year old quarterback. I believe martz was screwing with us, he wanted us to fall from glory.

Yes! I finally found some one who fills my pain, have a little taste of what I've been preaching to people about, the RAMS act as if there scared of success on DEFENCE, Only if Scott Linehan can here are voices.

Re: Rams Cause for concern!!

Ok listen Facing the Giant. Something you need to understand about football. A great offense is good defense. Our defense was great as far as the pass rush, but we couldn't stop the run. We'll be ok. We were 3 badly called games from 11-5. So just chill, and get your panties out of a bunch. When you have an offense that can put of 30 points a game consistently, you put the other teams offense in a quandry cause they start to abandon the run to keep up. That plays into our hands. So as I've said a great offense is good defense.

Re: Rams Cause for concern!!

Grant Wistrom is a good pick up beacuase he will bring that much of a boost to the youngters of our defence. but another thing I'm tired of is #1 our undersized linebackers and #2 a franchise starting linebacker, will never really had a true linebacker in years.

Re: Rams Cause for concern!!

The rams have tried to improve the D over the last few years. Witherspoon, Chavous, Glover,Coakley, none I had a problem with. As far as Clements, in the 2006 Profootball weekley " Clements was beaten regulary and was very inconsistent. He's got great size playmaking ability, but is not a hard worker." Not someone I want to give the bank away for..

Re: Rams Cause for concern!!

You'd think if all it took to build a winning franchise was to sign the big name free agents, the Washington Redskins would have 4-5 titles by now. If anything, they've proven that throwing money on the most well known players isn't a formula for success.

Besides, I seem to remember us giving Mister Witherspoon a fairly substantial contract last year.

I understand alot about football, what I dont understand is when is the last time we made somebody abandon the run?? I thought that was how we lost?? If you can't stop the run, YOU WILL NOT WIN. the colts was the rare exception of the rule. yes we were 3 badly called games from 11-5, but we did not get 11-5 did we?? the seahawks were 2 missed field goals from 7-9 werent they!! But did they miss those field goals?? no.. But I have complete faith that our D will step up big time next year. I really fill it i think they can, And this will be jimmy kennedy's pro bowl season, he will finaly come to life and be the monster he was at penn state. I will always support jimmy, and our Rams.

A player like Banta-Cain is needed, however Banta-Cain himself isn't that good. Adalius Thomas is a want, not a need. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see big name players on our team, but it doesn't make sense to waste the money on a position the coaches feel comfortable with. DT was a weak class, in general this FA was weak. Would you rather us spend money on players who we don't really need? Or wait until there's a better free agency? If there's a player we truly need, I think our team will get the player, but there is no such thing this year, unfortunately.

Re: Rams Cause for concern!!

we didnt try to get Adalius Thomas because it would have been pointless. The guy took a below market value contract so that he could play in New England. Even if we threw more money at him, he wouldnt want to come to St. Louis, he wanted to play for New England and he got that wish. It was obvious.

He probably had a contract agreed ages ago.
