Rams claim S Smith, DT Ramsey on waivers
By Jim Thomas
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Looking for depth at the safety and defensive tackle positions, the Rams claimed S Anthony Smith and DT LaJuan Ramsey on waivers Sunday, according to league sources.
Smith was released by Green Bay over the weekend; Ramsey was cut by Tennessee. Smith started 10 day games for Pittsburgh in 2007 but was signed by Green Bay following the 2008 season. Ramsey, 6-3, 300, originally was a sixth-round pick by Philadelpia in 2006, Ramsey has appeared in 19 regular-season games with the Eagles and Indianapolis, recording 24 tackles and one interception.
It’s believed the Rams have released linebacker Quinton Culberson and wide receiver Nate Jones to make room for Smith and Ramsey on the 53-man roster.

Re: Rams claim S Smith, DT Ramsey on waivers
These players seem to come from good football judgment teams so I'm happy to have them with us.
I am interested to see if the Rams show any interest in Brian Brohm, whom the Packers cut. While I realize we have Bulger as our starter for this year and possibly beyond, depending on how this season goes, Brohm has some talent that I feel he wasn't able to exhibit in GB where they were busy grooming Aaron Rogers into a starter. I know we kept Null and cut Berlin, which pleased me, Brohm may have starter potential for a few years down the road, which Boller certainly doesn't and the jury is still out on Null.
Go Rams!

I would love a shot at brian broehm. I find it incomprehensible that the rams dont believe he is a better prospect than the Null set, but of course he makes more money.
ramming speed to all

From a Packer Blog
Anthony Smith cut. Really shocked me. A hustler, ball-hawk and excellent tackler, who came from the Steelers 3-4

Re: Rams claim S Smith, DT Ramsey on waivers
Interesting that the players released, if JT's info is correct, don't correspond positionally.
Are they trying to trade one of the safeties or DTs or just shield them onto the PS at the last minute?
Can't believe we'll carry 5 safeties & we have a ton of DL . Weighed avoirdupois, not by impact, of course...lol

Re: Rams claim S Smith, DT Ramsey on waivers
Jeff Garcia is a HUGE no. He's got a diva attitude he brings with him, and trust me, we don't need that ...
My fiance is a Packers fan, so I've seen some of Brohm in the preseason the past few years. There's a reason he got buried on the depth chart. He simply couldn't pick up the offense at the NFL level. He looked subpar every time I saw him out there. We shouldn't waste our time ...
The Anthony Smith pickup is huge, albeit he is a bit of talker. Remember two years ago, he played with the Steelers, called out the Pats, then got smoked. Hopefully he brings some attitude here, but keeps his thoughts inside. Great pickup in terms of talent. The Pack is VERY deep at safety, simply a numbers thing on their part. Smith had 2 INT's in preseason ...
If Dahl can stay healthy, we are sitting pretty at S with Atogwe, Butler, Dahl, and Smith ...
If the Nate Jones move is true, we sit with FOUR WR's on the active roster!! That's crazy, we're going to have to add somebody ...
Still shocked that Roach is on the team, I expect him to be gone when we pick up a 5th wideout ...

Re: Rams claim S Smith, DT Ramsey on waivers
I still think we moved Hill for cap space and are going to get WR Reggie Brown from the Eagles. They have a ton of WR.If the Nate Jones move is true, we sit with FOUR WR's on the active roster!! That's crazy, we're going to have to add somebody ...
Eagles are keeping Reggie Brown and a whopping seven WRs for now.

Re: Rams claim S Smith, DT Ramsey on waivers
Garcia would have been a viable pick up, pre-Boller,for short term gain, imo. If the diva thing refers to his comments in Oakland, I disagree. He wants to start is all & his performance in TB last year was solid evidence to back up the assertion that he still can,esp in a WCO-based O.
I like Garcia; he's a tough feisty underdog-type like Flutie.
Some teams could do a lot worse for a primary back-up at least. Just not the forward thinking Rams who have a lot invested financially & team cohesion-wise in Bulger and Boller and a tantalizing project for the future in Null.
I doubt he'd want to be #3 on a rebuilding team with a suspect O-line,anyway.
Brohm, shmohm, indeed. I doubt the extra value of Brohm over Berlin would cover the cost of sewing his name on the jerseys. And that's with the B thrown in for free!
Good to hear some informed positive feedback on Smith. Another Billy coup?
I still think we need a wily vet built to take possession WR punishment. You'd hope Burton would be that guy but...

Re: Rams claim S Smith, DT Ramsey on waivers
I still think we need another DT on this team plus another RB. Who is this Ramsey kid? Can anyone give me any info on him? Is he a friend of SPags from 2006? lol... no more FOSLs if you catch my drift.

Re: Rams claim S Smith, DT Ramsey on waivers
Packers fans are absolutely fuming over the Smith cut. General consensus was that he was playing well enough to potentially get a starting gig ...
The only reason I could see that any Packers fans thought he might have been cut was his overemphasis on making the big play rather than playing his general assignment ...
Haven't been able to find anything indicating any Packer fan is happy about this ...
