Rams closing in on deal with Fred Robbins
The Rams are reportedly finalizing a deal with free agent DT Fred Robbins.
Reuniting with coach Steve Spagnuolo? The Rams aim to get bigger upfront, and Robbins (6'4/325) would provide a presence at the 3-technique tackle. If healthy, Robbins would be a boon to the team's run defense.

...and we're back to square one in regards to who our staff wants with the first pick. First a qb, now a d-lineman. I like this signing, personally.

Rams close to deal with DT Fred Robbins
Thanks to the Post-Dispatch for this:
The Rams were in the process Saturday night of finalizing a deal that would bring veteran NY Giants defensive tackle Fred Robbins to St. Louis.
Robbins, who turns 33 later this month, is 6-4 and 325 pounds.
He’s known as a stout as a run defender who can play nose tackle or 3-technique defensive tackle.
“We’re determined to get bigger up front,” one Rams official said.
If the negotiations culminate as expected, Robbins was expected to travel to St. Louis on Sunday to finalize the deal.
Team sources also said they have no interest in Arizona safety Matt Ware, as had been speculated earlier.

I think this solidifies Bradford as the #1 pick with a good workout.

Robbins is 33 years old. The move solidifies nothing.

Re: Rams closing in on deal with Fred Robbins
now this is the kind of move i can lick my chops to...i know this may not sound like that great a move but personally i think it would be a very wise one..it would be great to see AC back healthy and then showing us what we expected when we drafted him..but we cant count on that ever happening,so this gives us insurance that if the AC dream dont come true then we can atleast have somebody who can get the job done until younger players like Darell Scott or whichever DT we draft this year or the next will have some time to grow into their shoes..despite the obvious bad luck with injuries i think the fact that too much was expected out of AC from the get-go has also been something that held him back and even if he had been healthy all the time..theres a fair chance that he was gonna develop slower than expected due to it.
big thumbs up off me if he`s healthy and the price isnt too much..i know, even in an uncapped year im thinking about the cap!

Re: Rams closing in on deal with Fred Robbins
Good move, solid run stuffer, veteran, im assuming he came cheap as well. Always good to have veterans at key positions...You just don't go out and make them the highest paid players ever at the position while throwing away draft picks like some on here would have us do

Re: Rams closing in on deal with Fred Robbins
I knew we would sign someone like Robbins in the offseason. Can't always get the young guys. We were too young last year. Time to add some vets (like we've been saying all along).

Devaney, if you care about this team... fire the offensive coordinator!!!!

Re: Rams closing in on deal with Fred Robbins
i should add to my previous post..ive always had a bit of a soft spot for Fred ever since he came into the league with the Vikes, because me and him have the same family name..i doubt if many remember the last Robbins who became a Ram but it was Kevin Robbins..yeah..thought you wouldnt..
he was Guard/Tackle drafted by us with a late round pick,a fifth rounder i think..in about 1992.
EDIT: just checked it out..Kevin Robbins was actually drafted in the 3rd round in `89...damn my memory is getting bad now..i must be getting old ..

Re: Rams closing in on deal with Fred Robbins
I think this move Tells a bunch about the draft.
Look at our Dts after this move
Starters: Fred Robbins, Cliff Ryan
Reserves: Adam Carriker, Gary Gibson, Dorrel Scott
All of them have solid starting experience.
So we have depth at DT.
Suh would definitely help but his services are not NEEDED.
The whole getting feely means we might not get Bradford is BULL. AJ Feely is basically taking Kyle Bollers spot on the roster as a #2 QB. ANd Bulger is almost certainly gone. We only keep him to trade down making the bucs think we will take Suh.
