    rams and courtney watson?

What can anyone tell us about courtney watson, second round pick of the saints in 2004 and apparantly well regarded by haslett as his middle linebacker, who espn reports is on the verge of being released if they cant trade him. He is young, does anyone think this might be a fit for us on the cheap. I have no view on this at this point, would love to hear what the group has to say.

Yes, I know that R. Smith did better at the combine but check out the stats:

    Raonall Smith
    nfl.com/players/playerpage/302226

    Courtney Watson
    nfl.com/players/playerpage/493108

Smith has played more games, he may have the tools but so does Watson, Smith has injury problems, Watson does not. I'd rather see us go after Courtney Watson.

Also Watson doesn't have as big of contract as you think.

    Just my 5 cents.

If we traded for him or sign him later on, he wouldnt cost a lot, and he would get a chance to battle for a starting job at LB

Somehow, I think that if we cant imrove our LB's play with men we already have, adding Watson wouldn't help much.

the more competition the better,we need to get so much better at the lb position, remember last year we thought we fixed it with the guys we brought in and we know what happened there,so i think it couldnt hurt to have him in there,at the right price.

If the Rams decide to get him, it will probably be this week, before mini camp

I'd try and trade a conditional lower round draft pick based on playing time. His measurables are impressive but his stats for two seasons weren't. Hasslet knows him though and he could free up more options on the D. Love his speed and he could help on special teams. I say go get him.

I would trade Trev Faulk and a 6th round pick in next years draft for him

My question is why is he on the trading block? The Saints aren't so deep at LB that they can afford to give away a good player. So what gives?

he is on the block because he apparantly doesnt fit the new scheme. I dont think i am anxious to give up trev faulk, he is a terrific special teams player and an excellent backup and is a very low cap cost.

I'm more worried about our D line than the LBs.

I agree with TX. We are way too think on the D line. If we could get him for cheap, sure, as long as we are adding another D lineman; and soon.

Interesting sidenote: The Saints selected Watson with the draft pick we gave them for Turley.
