Re: Rams grab Pittman
Actually I believe my count is correct. The 54th guy is Fakir Brown who does NOT count on our active roster during his suspension!

Re: Rams grab Pittman
Maui, you are correct. Brown doesnt count until the suspension is over. Notwithstanding the fact that i asked this question about 100 times in the last month to every expert i could find, including howard and barry, every single person got it wrong. I was told time after time that brown counted against the roster and he doesnt.

Re: Rams grab Pittman
Will Antonio Pittman see any significant time against the Panthers?
Does he possibly become the Rams #2 Back?[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Re: Rams grab Pittman
I would not expect to see him at all in the opener other than maybe on special teams, but I seriously doubt that. No way would he be the #2 back over Leonard, as Leonard wears too many hats that Pittman isn't (at this time anyway) capable of wearing. -- MauiRam
Jax, the main man. Leonard, best and biggest support man. Travis Minor ... mainly assigned for ST? Pittman, perhaps the apprentice that may eventually -- as in this season -- become a reliable 3rd RB depth but, no, no way is he knocking anything for number 2.
Now, where RotoWorld.com got the following is beyond me (they put St. Louis Post - Dispatch as the source). It just comes across as making no sense and definetely premature! Dated yesterday.
Rams claimed RB Antonio Pittman off waivers from New Orleans.
Pittman could emerge as a threat to current backup Brian Leonard's carries. Pittman has a lot to prove after getting cut as a fourth-round pick, but could allow Leonard to focus more on fullback if he picks things up quickly. He'll need to work on his pass protection to challenge Leonard for handcuff status.

Re: Rams grab Pittman
im not too up to date on what Pittman brings to the table, but i remember his name being thrown around during draft time as a potential back up to Jackson.
However reports of his time in NO dont leave me thrilled to have him here, but maybe him getting cut is the kick up the backside he needs to knuckle down and try harder. He obviously has talent, so seeing if he has the mindset while we can carry 54 players isnt a bad idea. If he thinks himself to be worthy of a starting job or whatever, then he has to work hard with his talent and get there. This isnt college where you can slack off because you are the star player.
You just have to look at the differences in attitude between Pittman and Leonard to see why Pittman will never be Jackson's backup over Leonard when Leonard is in STL

Re: Rams grab Pittman
Agreed Tomahawk. I hope and trust that Coaches Linehan and Olsen and Moses will look Pittman squarely in the eye and set him straight. AP is a 21 yr. old kid and needs plenty of guidance and mentorship before he starts trying to ram his way in the NFL.
I'm glad he understands he first needs to LEARN:
Partial quotes, Jim Thomas' article, STL Post-Dispatch, today: Rams Run with Chance to Acquire Pittman."I want to go out there, learn this offense first, and then get out there and compete, make the most of every opportunity I get. I would say the chances are better here than they were in New Orleans." [If he EARNS them!]
If he is to contribute quickly, he will have to polish up his pass blocking and blitz pickup, something Scott Linehan demands of all his running backs. And Pittman must show he can catch the ball out of the backfield; he caught only 37 passes over his college career at Ohio State.
"We had very good grades on him coming out of college," Linehan said. "And he played well enough as a rookie (in the preseason) to confirm what we thought of him."
While conceding that Pittman needs to work on his pass catching and pass blocking, Linehan said he has natural vision and very good speed. Linehan said the team would take a patient "wait-and-see" approach before determining Pittman's role with the team.
At 5-11, 207 pounds, Pittman has average size for an NFL running back.
"He's a straight-line guy," one veteran NFL scout said. "He runs hard. ... He's not a jitterbug. He's not a make-you-miss-in-space guy. It's a good 'get' for
the Rams."
Even though Pittman, 21, left Ohio State a year early, he finished eighth in school history in rushing yards (2,945). He fumbled only twice in 557 rushing attempts for the Buckeyes. All in all, it's been a humbling last few months for Pittman, a college star who expected to be a "first-day" draft pick.
"I've always been the guy to overcome a lot of things," he said. "So those setbacks aren't much to me."
:bash: Let's get this rookie "baptized" in the NFL, help him GROW. And yes, that would be behind his superiors, Jackson, Leonard, Minor.Last edited by RealRam; -09-04-2007 at 05:17 PM. Reason: Source
