The Rams hole at defensive tackle
I still believe we have a hole at defensive tackle even with the signing of DT Justin Bannan. He may be a part of the rotation but I don't think he will solve anything.
A few guys I just realized that are on the market and could be good next to Fred Robbins:
Tony Brown, DT, Titans and Ty Warren DT, Patriots. Both of these guys are 30 years old. Thats 2 years younger than Bannan and both have been much much much more productive than Bannan. Both have the ability to get after the QB and I'd love to grab one of them.
What do you guys think? Would they fit in well here? Do we need one of them?

Id definitely like Ty Warren. A lot of talent on the cheap after coming of an injury.

Re: The Rams hole at defensive tackle
Our current rotation would be Robbins and Bannan starting, with Cudjo & Scott, or maybe one of the rundrafted rookies taking up the two backup roles. Gibson could easily be brought back, given he was a starter last year. On known passing plays, Hall or Long may move inside while Quinn gets to play End.
While DT won't be a strength like we were hoping, it won't be a flaw either. With a strong exterior of our line, our inside will see single teams and should be able to stuff gaps pretty well.I believe!

Re: The Rams hole at defensive tackle
Is Tommie Harris still out there? Coming of an injury he could be cheap, and when he was healthy the guy showed he can play.

Re: The Rams hole at defensive tackle
Bannan is one of them players that does all the dirty work, to free up his team mates to make plays. His strength is stopping the run. Spags is making a concerted effort to improve the Rams run defense. OLB Diles and free agent OLB Poppinga are both players who's biggest strength is coming up to stop the run. I dont think Bannan will be expected to be a great pass rusher.?

Re: The Rams hole at defensive tackle
Given Bannan's role in 3-4 defenses previously, no, I wouldn't think that he's been brought in to be a pass rusher, and mainly to clog run lanes. But that makes sense when we greatly improved our pash rushing ability last year, and then used our first round pick on a pure pass rusher. Bannan will be the guy who we rotate out on 3rd down to let an end come inside.
I believe!

Re: The Rams hole at defensive tackle
Looks like the hole has been filled as Rams muscle in Muir. Good DT, good addition to DL department.

Re: The Rams hole at defensive tackle
DE: Quinn, Long, Hall, Selvie, Ah You, Sims (although I think he's done)
DT: Robbins, Cudjo, Scott, Bannan, Muir, Gibson (probably also gone)
Dang. With that rotation, nobody should get tired!

Re: The Rams hole at defensive tackle
When one of your starters from last year could re-sign at best to be the 4th guy, that's a good sign, especially when the two new guys signed moderate deals from what I can tell.
Gibson's definitely gone, one of Scott and Cudjo probably as well. Sims could stay because I'd imagine we'd keep 5 DE's long before 5 DT's with the potential of playing one or two of our DE's inside.I believe!
