Rams interview Brown's Melvin for d-line job
By Jim Thomas
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
MOBILE, Ala. _ With his offensive and defensive coordinators now in place, Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo is going about the business of filling out the rest of the coaching staff. Defensive line coach Randy Melvin, who has spent the past four seasons with the Cleveland Browns, interviewed with Spagnuolo on Wednesday here at the Senior Bowl.
Melvin, 49, played defensive line at Eatern Illinois from 1978-81. He has coached in the college ranks at Eastern Illinois, Wyoming, Purdue, Rutgers and Illinois (in 2005). Other than his time with the Browns, Melvinís only other NFL coaching stint was as an assistant for Bill Belichick in New England in 2000 and Ď01.
Melvin was part of Romeo Crennelís original staff in Cleveland, and currently is not under contract now that Crennel has been fired. He interviewed recently for a position on new Browns coach Eric Manginiís staff.
Spagnuolo spent much of Tuesday interviewing holdover members of the Ramsí 2008 staff. But as of Wednesday morning, some members of that staff had yet to speak with him. Spagnuolo also is having dinner with members of the Ramsí scouting and personnel department. For most members of that department, it will be the first time they meet their new head coach.

LOL but for real, former EIU Panthers include coaches Mike Shanahan, Brad Childress, and Sean Payton. Thats not too shabby of a list for a Division 1 AA football program. Lets hope Randy Melvin can continue to add to the great list of EIU alums.
