    Rams Jerseys Remembered, 0-25: L.A. to STL (1946 - 2010). Part I / IV.

Dear Rams aficionados / ClanRam fans,

Alright! March 2011. Fan extra activity to play with (consider it a mild therapy to help ease the pain of the offseason).

    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Not every player that is accepted by a team, ANY TEAM, turns out to be a reason to be proud, unfortunately. I'm referring to us as fans or for that matter, the team itself. But the fact is, these players below donned our Rams jersey and even if for a fleeting moment, they were warriors in battle, professionals in the NFL.

This list pretends to remember both hero as well as helper of past and present Rams teams. See if you notice a jersey name / number missing but please don't get carried away -- let others participate, yes?

Would appreciate your help in updating this to last year. Just post your players (from 1946 to 2010) and I'll place him on the list.

The list is divided by 25s or, four parts. This is I / IV.

    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

From the 'JERSEYS' thread initiated five years ago, this here is the main ingredient, the nitty gritty, the JERSEY NUMBERS and the PLAYERS who sported them as far back as 1946 and as recently as 2010. I thought of including the Cleveland Rams but that is simply too far beyond my scope / time.

Let's see then if we can update the list w/names currently missing -- shall we?

We're one of the few teams in pro sports to cover ALL #s 0-99. ADD-ON!

Though "unofficial", over 95% of entries below have been carefully checked and confirmed through the research, memory and love of the Rams fans that have followed and supported their team of over half a century. NFL RAMS: history and passion!

Listed are Rams players with at least

*. Three Youngbloods, no relation -- except for true Rambrotherhood.
    **. Heisman Trophy (Horvath – Ohio St., 1944; Baker – Oregon St., 1962; Bradford – Oklahoma, 2008).
***. Brothers Merlin & Phil Olsen played Rams DT, side by side, early 70s. Only two I know of in NFL, ever.

Please feel free to input Rams players that have passed away (Les Richter comes to mind), or other jersey related stories.

Hey, Rep points Q: What year did the NFL officially place names on back of players jerseys?

    Gracias amigos.

    --

Above, two HOFs, one retired jersey. Both tremendous Rams!

Below are a couple Rams uniform renditions I picked up somewhere in the 2010 Internet from a fan suggesting we get back to basics. Thing is, "basics" can go back a long, long way.

Joe 'No Knees' Namath. An L.A. Ram in 1977. Played six games: 600 yds, three TDs, 5 INTs.

Big deal, right? But he put on a real, true NFL Rams jersey. An ephemeral experience for both him and the fans; a Ram nevertheless.

I hope to start getting names from the 2008-10 Rams rosters here. Come on!

It's part of my offseason pacifier, for crying out loud.

Here's my first addition to the 2008-2010 list, Part I. 12 -- QB Kyle Boller [09].

That's because I was waiting for someone to bring him up! You you just did, so SB is now in.

I'm also adding Brandon Gibson, WR [09] to jerseys No. 11.

Again, some players have / had but a very brief tenure with a given team but if they played a regular season game, I've got 'em! New to the above list is our SS Michael Lewis with No. 22.

Now we've also added his asterisk notation as Heisman Trophy winner, 2008.

Don't know how much work rookie Dominique Curry put in but I know he played in two games last year. He's in with this jersey number!

The Rep points trivia Q from post #2 above still stands:

What year did the NFL officially place names on back of players jerseys?

Note: Though not clearly visible, jersey below of The Roman General has "'69 MVP" inscribed on bottom side of large '8' on back. That does not mean that's why I'm placing it here as a hint for the answer of the year. No, I do not own this jersey.

A quarterback controversy of some 45 years ago: Munson, No. 19 / Gabriel, No. 18.

The Roman Ram became the starter and played excellent QB when Coach George Allen was at the helm, 1966-70. Gabriel was NFL MVP in '69.

Both QBs below in a handoff play (Gabriel keeps the ball). Click on images.
