Notation already made here to indicate Jonze's report of Chris Long changing jersey No. to 91 for this year. As the list states, only players that have taken part of at least one regular season game are listed but I think we can take said report as very credible to anticipate Long's No. 91 as "official". :-)

Other such changes should also be mentioned, e.g., Flipper Anderson, Leonard Little, Jamie Martin, etc.

So let's get it on. Please let me know if you have Rams jersey number anecdotes.
Or, if there's a mistake somewhere among these 700+ players.

PS: BTW, rep points for 1st to give grand total of players up to 2010! Give or take seven.

Good one on Selvie, SJ. Yes, as a rookie Selvie had a 67 jersey and used during training camp, and I believe also during pre-season. But I don't think he wore it for the regular season (if someone knows to the contrary, please post). Those marketing people don't wait long do they! I'm placing this DE then, with No. 90 as you pointed out.

    -- --

Will get the other players on the list that you mentioned but remember, please allow others here to pitch in with some names.

...Unless nobody else does. Then it is up to you and me!

Perfect example of one Ram w/two jersey numbers, receiver Tom Fears. Back then a WR was called an 'End'.

Fears was one of my first Rams idols even though he played much earlier (1948-56) than the time when I first became a Rams fan, ca. 1965. But he was my paisano so that called my attention; besides, there were some fine photos of him making terrific catches in the few sports mags I had access to and I thought those plays were super neat.

    TF wearing No. 55:

Below are a couple of images of what the Rams jersey was when Tom Fears played, both with his classic No. 55 as well as 80. Rams jersey No. 80 was of course, retired last year in honor of Isaac Bruce. But it's good to know that two other Ram great receivers played with the same number, Fears and Ellard.

Fear's jersey No. 80 pictured here is in the HOF. Click on image.

Rams jerseys remembered. As mentioned elsewhere, many of these players were in the active roster before my time, all the way back to when they first began their NFL campaigns in the Los Angeles Coliseum, 1946.

I enjoy sharing the pictures of some of these old school Rams. If you -- and the Clan Mods -- don't mind, I'd like to attach some of these vintage Rams, perhaps with a bit of their history with the organization.

Below, jersey No. 15 - Terry Baker, a Heisman Trophy winner that never could succeed with QBs like Bratkowski, Gabriel, and Plum in front of him. He played very little from 1963-65. Next, No. 53 - Mike Henry, LB from 1962-64. 61 - Mike Strofolino, LB in 1965. No. 62 - Don Chuy, G from 1963-68. No. 63 - Joe Carollo, a fine T that played seven years with the Rams, 1962-68, then one more season in '71 with jersey No. 70.

These were tough years for the Rams as a team but the warriors were tougher still.

Another No. 70 - Charles Toogood (how about that name for the draft), OL/DL from 1951-56. One more No. 70 Rams jersey - Frank Varrichione, T from 1961-65. Next, a very fine DL with No. 72: Earl Leggett. Too bad he only played one year with the Rams, 1966. Lastly in this group with No. 80 is TE Bucky Pope, played with us three years, 1964, '66-67.

Added Big John Baker, DL with No. 74. Played four years with the Rams, till 1961.

Hey, where are my trusty colleagues / editors?

In the jerseys listed above, Nos. 51-75, I had tackle Irv Eatman with '75'. That was incorrect. He used 75 with other NFL teams as well as in the USFL. But with the Rams he was 77. I've taken Eatman off and transferred his number to the right group.

For the record, I did not intentionally err this way so that someone would notice. If you do find something else however, please let me know.

Another Ram that left us too early. Carl Ekern, Pro Bowl LB. He was just 36.

Ekern was a graduate of San Jose State University and played pro football from 1976 to 1988 for the Los Angeles Rams. He died of head injuries on August 1, 1990 when the Jeep he was driving ran off a highway near the Kern County town of Ridgecrest, California. At the time of the accident, Ekern was en route to Minden, Nevada, where he was a volunteer counselor and coach at the Rite of Passage, a camp for juvenile delinquents. The camp is located about 15 miles east of Lake Tahoe. -- San Jose Mercury News, August 2, 1990
Not sure if the 'Carl Ekern Spirit of The Game Award' is still in use. "...Honoring the former Rams linebacker, [the CESOG] is the St. Louis Rams award given to the player who best exemplifies sportsmanship, work ethic, and commitment to his teammates".
