Re: RAMS JERSEYS REMEMBERED, All-time: 2012 edition. Part I - IV

Full list is divided in 25s or, four parts. This here is I / IV

    Numbers 0 through 25
    Whose missing?

    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

QB Zeke Bratkowski played for the L.A. Rams from 1961-62 and part of '63. Statistically, these were his best years from a 14 season NFL career (although he did suffer from interceptitis).

    - - - Rams jersey No. 12.

Below, ZB flanked by End Jim Phillips (82) and the great RB Ollie Matson. [NOTE: Date on first photo should be 1961, not '62. Bratkowski was with Chicago Bears that year.]

Playing center as well as linebacker for the L.A. Rams from 1946-50 was Fred Naumetz. Naumetz only played five years in the NFL, all Ram, and ended with 7 INTs. All-Pro in 1949. Jersey No. 22.

Below, Naumetz' helmet as I believe it would have looked ca. 1948-50, with the gold horns.

Sean Landeta. Our old friend 'The Tourist' played 21 years in the NFL, most for a punter I believe. In the NFL he punted 1,400 times and amassed 60,000+ yards. Goodness gracious.

With the Rams he played from 1993-96, then again in 2003-04.

Jersey No. 5 ladies and gentlemen.

Backup QB for the Rams in 2006-07: Gus Frerotte. Gusssss Frerotte. G U S FREROTTE.

Some say, "victim of circumstance", etc. Couldn't really get it going when with the Rams. ...No. 12.

    - - Jersey No. 17 in 1982: Bert Jones, QB

30 years ago, in 1982, there was much expectation in Rams nation because Bert Jones was the new QB; he was still considered a sensation by many and a promise of high accomplishments within the Rams offense.

As it is, BJ was only able to play four games for the L.A. Rams due to a neck injury that ultimately ended his NFL career. The hope fizzled out and the Rams was the last team he played for [a la Joe Namath five years earlier].

Rams safety from 1997-99 Billy Jenkins, including playing in SB XXXIV; that adds a nice ring to it.

John Hadl, Rams QB in 1973 and part of the '74 season. In 1973 Hadl helped the Rams make it to the playoffs, was the team MVP and was a Pro Bowl selection. Jersey No. 21.

Jerseys with No. 1 are really few and far between! Here is punter Matt Turk who played with the Rams one year, in 2006. Below, Turk during practice -- clic on image.

Re: RAMS JERSEYS REMEMBERED, All-time: 2012 edition. Part I - IV

Another punter here, Donnie Jones played for the Rams from 2007-11. One of our best all-time punters. Jersey No. 5.

In 2007 he broke the Rams record for highest punting average in a single season, punting 78 times for a 47.2-yard punting average. The previous record of 45.5-yard punting average, lasted 45 years after being set in 1962 by Danny Villanueva.

In 2008, Jones became the first NFL punter to average at least 50 yards per punt since Sammy Baugh in 1940. He was voted Second-team All-Pro and a first alternate to the Pro Bowl. For the second straight year Jones was voted an alternate to the Pro Bowl in 2009.

In 2009 he broke the Rams career gross average punt record with a 48.0-yard average, surpassing the 44.3 yards average established also by Danny Villanueva from 1961 to 1964.

Dick Huffman, OT for the 1947-50 Rams. Jersey No. 20 ... for an offensive lineman!

Re: RAMS JERSEYS REMEMBERED, All-time: 2012 edition. Part I - IV

    - - CORRECTION to previous Kurt Warner post:

Warner sported the available jersey No. 10 during his "rookie" year, 1998, when he played one game then switched to No. 13 (with no fear or 'superstition') the next year, the year when TGreen was badly injured during a preseason game and Kurt stepped in, stepped up, and walked into fame and glory.

    What a story!

Re: RAMS JERSEYS REMEMBERED, All-time: 2012 edition. Part I - IV

BTW, and for the record, Warner didn't play in 1998 until the very last game of the season, Dec. 27. It was in the whiners sandbox in a loosing effort. Warner replaced an injured Steve Bono that afternoon and threw 11 passes, completed 4 for 39 yards. That was it.

    That was it? ...Hardly!

Friskie town did not know who that QB No. 10 was for the Rams and never in their worst nightmares did they foresee the Warner Wonder that would win the hearts of millions of fans -- including non Rams fans -- AND win the Super Bowl the very next year.

Can't wait to see Kurt Warner in the Hall Of Fame.

Re: RAMS JERSEYS REMEMBERED, All-time: 2012 edition. Part I - IV

This is why Kurt Warner had jersey No. 10 in 1998 (all of one regular season game). Steve Bono was backup QB to Tony Banks that year and played six games. Bono donned No. 13.

In the last game of that season at whiners (see attachment below), Bono had to leave the game with an injury. In comes KW.

BTW, you think that SBono and SYoung are talking about Warner here at the end of the game?
"Hey, looks like that No. 10 guy has a future!" No, probably not. LOL.

Re: RAMS JERSEYS REMEMBERED, All-time: 2012 edition. Part I - IV

How would you feel if you played in the NFL one year, part time, and got to the Super Bowl?

QB Paul Justin was a backup in 1999 when the GSOT exploded into a myriad of records and successes. He actually did play during the regular season, especially to finish and close shop when the Rams were far ahead and Kurt Warner was taken out to savor the triumph. And sure enough, Justin got a SB ring.

Below, PJ at end of game vs. Cleveland [that's not the SB of course (sorry)]. Rams ahead 34-3.
