Re: RAMS JERSEYS REMEMBERED, All-time: 2012 edition. Part III - IV

Full list is divided in 25s or, four parts. This here is III / IV

Numbers 51 through 75. What players are missing?

LB George Burman played for the Rams from 1967-70, 42 games. While still in his NFL years this bright man acquired a Ph.D. in economics from the U. of Chicago during off seasons, later becoming Dean of Business School at Syracuse University. That's because he was a Ram! All that head butting.

The Rams 2000 5th round Draft selection, DT Brian Young played in STL four years (until '03). Strong (435-pound bench press, 675-pound squat in college), solid and stable tackler. NFC Defensive Player of the Week in Nov. 9, 03 with 11 tackles, a sack and three fumble recoveries. Plus, for good measure, a forced fumble to win game vs. Ravens. Jersey No. 66.

Another double duty player for the Rams was Don Paul. Paul played his entire pro-football career with the Rams, 1948-55 either at guard or linebacker. No. 57 was with the 1951 NFL Champions ... the Rams!

Six-time Pro Bowler, All-Pro four times, Isiah Robertson was a Rams starting OLB from 1971-78. He was the Rams 1st round Draft pick (10th overall) in '71 and NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. IR intercepted 18 passes with two of them for scores (one was a 76 yard TD).

Selected by the Rams in the 4th round Draft pick in 2004 was Brandon Chillar. Chillar played for the Rams until 2007; I always thought, and wanted, that he continued developing in STL rather than GBay.

Duval Love was a Rams guard from 1985-91. The Anaheim years, there were some good ones!

A fifth-round Draft pick in 1999 by the Rams, guard Cameron Spikes was used mostly as a reserve OL, including in SB XXXIV. He played with the Rams until '01. Donned jerseys No. 71 and 73.

Linebacker Will Witherspoon played for the Rams from 2006-09 (mid-october of '09). No. 51 was Rams MVP in 2007 after recording 110 tackles and a career-high seven sacks.

    Two words: THE TACKLE.

Mike Jones was a Rams LB from 1997-00 but will always be remembered for his heroic last-play / last-second stop during SB XXXIV of Titans' receiver Kevin Dyson at the one-yardline to secure the Rams 23-16 lead, ergo, RAMS WIN - RAMS ARE CHAMPIONS.

Thank you No. 52, especially for 1999!!!

Rams No. 56 in 1965 was Frank Marchlewski, a center that also played for the Rams in 1968 and '69.

    - - Like father, like two sons.

LB Fred Wittingham played for the Rams in 1964 (jersey No. 55) then continued his career with various other NFL teams. Once retired, Wittingham returned to the Rams in 1982 as a ST and TE coach for several years then worked for the organization as a scout in '89.

Interestingly, two of FW's sons, Kyle (jersey No. 52) and Cary (No. 57), also played for the L.A. Rams, both in 1987. See pic below.

-- That penalty is MINE! All mine! ...Ha! I'll get more that anyone else, yeah!

OT Alex Barron was a 1st round pick (19th overall) by the Rams in 2005 playing as a starter[!] and remained with the team until '09[!?!]. During his five year tenure with the Rams, Barron, No. 70, was the most penalized player in the NFL.

    Man, oh, man...

With the way things are shaping up for the Rams this year, I'm thinking that our players are getting more fired-up every day, albeit "quietly for now". But come game day, watch out!

Watch out for MLB James Laurinaitis, No. 55.

Our 2nd round pick from the 2009 Draft will be on F I R E! ...The 'Animal'.

End (WR) Jack Zilly played most of his six year NFL career with the Rams, 1947-51. No. 66 was there with the 1951 NFL Champions alright.
