    Re: RAMS JERSEYS REMEMBERED, All-time: 2012 edition. Part III - IV

    Full list is divided in 25s or, four parts. This here is III / IV

    Numbers 51 through 75. What players are missing?

    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

    Another old, old-school football player with the L.A. Rams was RB Gerard 'Gerry' Cowhig. Cowhig played for the Rams from 1947-49 with jersey No. 51 (possibly No. 9 also).

    An L.A. Rams OT from 1961 through '65 was Frank Varrichione with more than a touch of Italian tough-guy attitude. Jersey No. 70.

    Below (in heavy, hard nose Italian accent): "Hey, wanna play a little scrimmage?"

    Re: RAMS JERSEYS REMEMBERED, All-time: 2012 edition. Part III - IV

    The L.A. Rams of 1965-72 had a strong and solid OL that featured long term / long career successful players such as Bob Brown (HOF), Joe Carollo, Don Chuy, Charlie Cowan, Ken Iman, Mack (HOF), etc.

    Below is RT / LT Charlie Cowan, No. 73. Cowan, a Pro Bowler, played his entire 15 year career with the Rams, 1961-75, equally effective on either side of the center.

    Dennis Harrah, one of my favorite OL of the mid 70s thru mid 80s. He was a 1st round Draft pick (11 overall) by the Rams in 1975 and played 13 straight years until 1987. Played in some mighty fine Rams teams. This No. 60 almost made it all the way to the top in 1979, our first Super Bowl year. SB XIV.

    Harrah was several times Pro Bowl and All-Pro. Strong guy, the kind that could bench press 500 lbs -- or, one linebacker in each arm.

    Re: RAMS JERSEYS REMEMBERED, All-time: 2012 edition. Part III - IV

    'Mr. Irrelevant' David Vobora was a Rams LB in 2008-10. Vobora was the final selection of the 2008 NFL Draft (252 overall), and he made the roster that year! No. 58.

    Vobora was named the starting strongside linebacker for the 2009 season. On September 30, 2009, he was suspended for four games for violating the NFL's performance enhancing substance policy. Vobora stated that he would sue the company that produced the supplement he took, because it contained substances that were not listed on the label. Vobora's agent, Marc Lillibridge, conceded "(The supplement) was not on the list of officially sanctioned products, and ultimately a player is responsible for anything he puts in his body."

    On June 20, 2011, Vobora's lawyer announced that a federal judge ruled against the company and awarded Vobora $5.4 million.

    LT Joe Carollo and LG Don Chuy were OL No. 63 and 62 respectively in the early 60s.

    JCarollo (also a guard) was a starter for the Rams from 1962-68 and '71. DChuy was a Ram guard from 1962-68. We had some very good / strong offensive lines in the mid - lates 60s; most points scored in 1967 (NFL & AFL), 398 when only 14 games were played per season.

    Clic below for larger images, Carollo & Chuy:

    Re: RAMS JERSEYS REMEMBERED, All-time: 2012 edition. Part III - IV

    A CORDIAL INVITATION.

    I'm currently on the last few players to post in this series of Rams Jerseys Remembered: All-time, 2012 Edition. I'd like to invite anyone to post a player in any of the four parts (PT I: 0-25; PT II: 26-50; PT III: 51-75; PT IV: 76-99).

    For example, here in Part III ... if someone would like to place one of their favorite players from 1946 to 2012? A little about the player's tenure with the Rams, a stat or two and a couple of images.

    THANKS IN ADVANCE! Thanks ClanRam!

    BTW, stats and/or other data for Rams players that I've mentioned in these four threads are mainly from:

    * . Databasefootball.com, or,
    * . Pro-Football Reference.com, or,
    * . STL Rams Official Website.com, or,
    * . Wikipedia

    Images are from the Internet and from "my" Rams items collection.

    Tom Nütten, a fan favorite guard played for the STL Rams from 1998-05 (the extent of his NFL career). Nütten helped make the legendary GSOT a reality, right down in the trenches. No. 61.

    DL Earl Leggett had a one year stint with the L.A. Rams of 1966 where he played backup for the Fantastic Four, yes, that four. Leggett wore jersey No. 72 before Diron Talbert came along the following year and donned the same number.

    Drafted by the Rams in 1981, DT Greg Meisner played until 1988 including the Rams team that won the NFC West Division in '85. He had No. 69.

    Playing center and guard from 1999 to 2007, Andy McCollum formed part of a very fine OL that helped the Rams boost their monstrous GSOT machine, scoring 500+ points three consecutive years (1999-01), an NFL record. McCollum had jerseys number 64 and 67.

    DL Diron Talbert was a 5th round Draft pick by the Rams in 1966 but did not play until the following year and became a starter at DE in place of Lamar Lundy until 1970. Then he followed HC Allen to the Redskins in '71. Diron's brother, Don Talbert, also played several years in the NFL.

    - - Diron Talbert, jersey No. 72.
