Re: RAMS JERSEYS REMEMBERED, All-time: 2012 edition. Part IV - IV

Only players with at least one regular season game are listed...

Full list is divided in 25s or, four parts. This here is IV / IV

Numbers 76 through 99. What players are missing?

    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Mostly a linebacker and occasionally DE was Roy Wilkins; played w/the Rams in 1958-59. Had No. 78.

It was not too long ago that Victor Adeyanju was playing DE for the Rams (2006-09). He had been a 4th round pick by STL and became a starter (26 games) but was waived before the 2010 regular season began. Had No. 94.

Much hope and confidence is being placed on DE William Hayes in 2013.

And I think No. 95 WILL deliver.

Rams TE from 1969-74 with No. 88: Pat Curran. Played FB too.

Among the Rams several TE candidates: Lance Kendricks. Current No. 88 is probably 'in'.

    A.K.A. big WR.

Mainstay for the Rams DL is Chris Long going into his 6th year at DE and making his dad proud by the intensity with which his son fights through on every play. Looking for Long to be the catalyst for an improved defense in 2013!

For Memorial Day in the U.S., we have a Vietnam War veteran to honor in WR Willie Miller. He played with the Rams from 1978-82, including SB XIV. Jersey No. 82.

For more on Willie Miller's story, see: CSUrams.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/111011aaa.html.

Re: RAMS JERSEYS REMEMBERED, All-time: 2012 edition. Part IV - IV

A back-up LB but nevertheless tough, hard nosed defender: Tony Guillory played for the Rams from 1965, '67-68. Perhaps his reckless, rugged and vicious style -- i.e., resulting in injuries -- kept him from playing after only four years in the NFL (traded to Philly in '69, his last season). No. 88.

BTW, following is a video (sorry for poor resolution) with the play I have aluded to over the years here in ClanRam. December, 1967: Rams were in a MUST win situation for their last two games that year, Packers, then the Colts.

Check out Tony Guillory's heroic block of Packer Donny Anderson' punt late, late in the 4th Qtr and the ensuing wild finish (11:17 on video progress). [Yes, Rams also won the following week big time Vs Baltimore and went to the playoffs.]

Further reading about this memorable game, IMHO one of the best, most exciting down-to-the-wire finishes in Rams history: SportsIllustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1080685/index.htm

Ah-ha! So Chuck Lambert was n o t the first player to favor the mean toothless grin look!

Clic on images below ... including the moment Guillory blocks that last minute Packers punt. Then, last picture, elation and celebration at end of game! Teams give kudos to TG; pictured is Roger Brown (78) probably telling Guillory to breathe deep and enjoy. No. 24 is DB Clancy Williams.

Have just added big DE Kendall Langford to the list with No. 98. He came in last year and I'd like to see him continue as a starter with the team in 2013.

End (today's WR) Bob Carey played for the Rams three sporadic years, 1952, '54, '56. His NFL career was short lived -- four years -- with limited productivity apparently due to injuries despite having good size for the era at 6-5", 220 lbs. He donned jersey No. 89.

Below is Carey flanked by none other than superstar Rams Crazylegs Hirsch and QB N.V. Brocklin.

A momentous, dramatic almost sack in SB XXXIV that could have ended it right there by DEs Kevin Carter, No. 93, and Jay Williams, No. 96. McNair must have had his uniform all covered with grease. It's a wonder he was able to escape!

Carter was a 1st roud Draft pick (6 overall) in 1995, quickly became a starter. Played 'till 2000. Williams came from the 1994 L.A. team but apparently didn't play that year. Was with the Rams until '99.

    Kevin Carter and Jay Williams

From 1972 to '81 Fred Dryer was a strong, reliable and consistent DE for the Rams -- part of a terrific DL! Part actor, part football player, part joker, he usually wore all hats with good success, especially under the Rams helmet for 10 years and wearing No. 89.

His two safeties Vs Packers in a same game (Oct. 21, 1973) still stands as an NFL record.

For all you Mark LeVoir fans ...

This OT was signed in 2007 but did not play. Left the Rams and was resigned in 2011, played seven game, started three. Had No. 79.

A very fine and fiery LB / occasional DE, Kevin Greene played for the Rams from 1985-92. I was sorry to see him leave, perhaps he would have been part of the Super Bowl Rams in '99, the last year he played in the NFL. A strong No. 91.

Jeff Zgonina, DT with No. 90 and a John Madden moniker: "Cankles".

A strong, good DL for the Rams in 1997, '99-02 (very durable - played 17 years in the NFL). Was right there in SB XXXIV and on the very last play he's waving his arms in denial signal for the Titans' final effort.
