Re: RAMS JERSEYS REMEMBERED, All-time: 2012 edition. Part IV - IV

Only players with at least one regular season game are listed...

Full list is divided in 25s or, four parts. This here is IV / IV

Numbers 76 through 99. What players are missing?

    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

In 1999 the Rams' 1st round Draft pick (6th overall) was WR Torry Holt: Rookie of the Year as well as seven-time Pro Bowl selection while with the Rams, twice All Pro -- scored a TD in SB XXXIV.

Holt played 10 years with the Rams until 2008 and like Ike above, was also a strong cog in the GSOT machine. As a Rams receiver, he caught 869 passes for over 12,600 yards (eight consecutive seasons with well over 1,000 yds.); scored 74 TDs.

Torry had jersey No. 88 his first two years then switched to No. 81 for the rest of his Rams tenure.

All the best to our man at RT, Roger Saffold, No. 76. Saffold was the Rams 2nd round Draft pick (33rd) in 2010 and became a starter since on the left corner.

Again, all the best to Saffold in his new assignment.

Bucky Pope, "The Catawba Claw" (a nickname that even Steve Sabol mentions in an NFL Films video). Pope played three years with the Rams, 1964, '66-67 and was known for his deep routs with a 'jump ball' ability at 6-5", 210 lbs.; he had a 95 yard TD in'64 from Bill Munson and helped QB Roman Gabriel develop as a bomber.

His first year, Pope was was named to the NFL All-Rookie team. A memorbale No. 80 although he only played a total of four years in the NFL.

Pope ranks up there with the top all-time receivers in the NFL with 31.44 yards per catch, 1964 (25-786) for yards per catch in a season.

Richard Cash played back-up DE for the Rams in 1969-71 (the 3rd year was on injured reserve).

Rich Cash, No. 89, with the Rams in 1969. Clic on image...

Pete Holohan was a good 'softhands' TE that played for the Rams from 1988-90. During these three years he caught 159 passes for over 1,600 yards and scored seven TDs.

No. 81 was also the holder for PK Mike Lansford (that's how I remembered about Holohan! ^_^).

With No. 99 we have back-up DL Ray Agnew playing three years for the Rams, 1998-00; was there with the ST squad in SB XXXIV. He retired after winning that SB ring but continued as part of the Rams organization as a scout and player counselor / pastor.

The last two seasons in OT Todd Steussie's 14 year NFL career were as a starter with the Rams (2006-07). A big, strong tackle.

Re: RAMS JERSEYS REMEMBERED, All-time: 2012 edition. Part IV - IV

Without having met the person, one would think that with a name like 'Rosey', doing macramé and needlepoint, she'd be an old lady of 76 years of age, on a rocking chair telling stories to the grandchildren.

THIS is a different No. 76. Meet Mister Roosevelt Grier. A larger than life individual.

Rosey Grier, DT of the Los Angeles Rams from 1963-66, a kind / fearsome man. A man weaving yarn, the preacher speaking sermons (ordained minister), actor, bodyguard, singer ... he was a monster.

Grier suffered a career-ending torn achilles tendon injury during a Rams pre-season game in 1967 and was thus replaced by Roger Brown who effectively also became a fearsome force. But Rosey was a unique NFL player...

    - - - -

Among other kind thoughts he has of his recently departed friend and teammate, Deacon Jones:

"I taught him the head slap when I came over from the Giants (in 1963). He learned that from me. Deacon said to me, 'Yeah, but I perfected it.' He was a great defensive end.''
    - USA TODAY Sports / Jim Corbett, June 4, 2013

Clic on images below. In the first pic George Halas, HC of the Bears is on the sideline (with hat), saying, "why you big bulley":

Before becoming Head Coach of the L.A. Rams in 1962 for three years, Harland Svare was also a Rams DL / LB during 1953-54. In '54 Svare had jersey No. 76.

WR Todd Kinchen had a good following of Rams fans from Anaheim. He played in L.A. from 1992-94, then one year in STL, 1995. Total 900 yards, 7 TDs as a receiver and also returned punts and kickoffs, including a 61 yard TD punt return. No. 81.

A good receiver and also punt returner was Dane Looker. Looker came to the Rams in 2000 but did not play so he opted to go to NFL Europe (there Looker became MVP in the World Bowl title).

In 2002 Looker was signed by the STL Rams although he didn't play until December. From there No. 89 played as part of the receiver corps until 2008 with reliable effort and decent productivity.

Looker made a good tandem too with K Jeff Wilkins during many successful field goals as the ball holder.

Re: RAMS JERSEYS REMEMBERED, All-time: 2012 edition. Part IV - IV

A popular player among fans and teammates was WR Willie 'Flipper' Anderson. No. 83 was part of a good Rams offense during the late 80s. Flipper was a 2nd round Draft pick in 1988 by the Rams and played in L.A. (Anaheim) until 1994.

I believe Anderson might still hold the NFL record for most receiving yards / yards from scrimmage in a game, 336 (22+ yards per reception avg.), when he caught 15 passes from Jim Everrett in a thrilling win over New Orleans, a victory that got us the tickett to the 1989 playoffs. What - a - game!

    - -

The following month during the Divisional Playoff game, Anderson caught two TD passes vs Giants in New York, the 2nd one being a 30 yarder in OT. Everyone and their sister that saw that game remembers Flipper leaping, catching that pass in the air at the Giants 5 yd line (3rd picture above; see also attachment below), running across the end zone and straight into the stadium tunnel all the way to the locker room!

Giant fans were in disbelief and dispair. Again, what - a - WIN!

Below: a Rammemory to celebrate. The GW TD by Anderson in OT vs NYG. Playoff in NY, Jan. 7, 1990.

Also with jersey No. 83 we have another WR in Kevin Curtis.

Curtis, a fine receiver, was the Rams 3rd round Draft selection in 2003 and played in STL until 2006 often as the 3rd receiver behind Bruce & Holt. In the four year / 51 game total with the Rams, KC caught 136 passes for 1,700+ yards and 12 TD scores, including an 83 yarder vs Jaguars in Oct., 2005.
