Re: RAMS JERSEYS REMEMBERED, All-time: 2012 edition. Part IV - IV

Full list is divided in 25s or, four parts. This here is IV / IV

Numbers 76 through 99. What players are missing?

    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

From more classic times, RB Verda 'Vitamin T' Smith played five years in the NFL, all with the L.A. Rams, 1949-53; he was right there with the popular 1951 Champions.

On the small side for pro football (5-8", 175 lbs.) Vitamin was versatile as a RB / receiver / punt and kickoff return man. Tough little cookie! Scored 23 TDs combined, including a 93 yard kickoff return to the house. Jersey No. 77 -- numbers did not follow today's NFL player position system.

Big Bad John LoVetere played DT for the Rams from 1959-62, perhaps helping prepare the way for the fearsome DL to come shortly thereafter. Jersey No. 76.

Ahhh, Jason Smith, Rams 1st round Draft pick in 2009 (2nd overall). Was with STL until 2011.

    - No. 77 was such a high hope / high expectation rookie.

How many remember WR Shaun McDonald? - -

McDonald was a Rams 4th round Draft pick in 2003 and played for STL until 2006; totalled 106 receptions for 1,200+ yards and 4 TDs, including the GW score pictured below.

You do remember Marc Bulger's game winning 52 yard pass to McDonald in OT to beat Seahags -- and the shocked stadium, LOL. Highlight for this No. 84.

Here's McDonald during that game in Seattle putting the Rams ahead for good 33-27, Oct., 2004.

DE Andy Robustelli played the first five of his 14 year NFL career with the L.A. Rams, 1951-55. Missed one game in 14 seasons.

    - - Rams jersey No. 84.

Robustelli was a late-round Draft pick by the Rams in 1951 and came with some questionable football attributes (small as an OEnd or DEnd at 6-0, 225 lbs) but quickly proved his true colors and made the team as a rookie. By the end of his rookie year he was playing in the NFL Championship game, and won.

Soon thereafter, Robustelli also showed his value as a leader and became Pro Bowl and All-Pro several times, eventually one of the best DEs of all-time.

HOF Class of 1971. Clic on images below...

Cody Jones was a DL for the Rams from 1974-1982 (sans '79), played 110 games in eight seasons.

Irv Eatman was an OT that began his pro career in the USFL then entered the NFL in 1986. In 1993 Eatman was a starter for the L.A. Rams during all 16 games. No. 77 (possibly also 75).

WR for the Rams five years (1975-79) was Ron Jessie, No. 81. Good receiver, Pro Bowl 1976.

One of the best DBs in NFL history. Hard, hard hitter / feared tackler, ball hawk (set an NFL record for INTs by a rookie, 14, one of which he returned 80 yards for a TD).

This was Dick 'Night Train' Lane who almost began his pro football career with the L.A. Rams in 1952 as a receiver -- thus his No. 81 jersey -- after showing up as a walk-in at the Rams training facility looking for a position with the team. Just like that.

Lane played for the Rams a second year in 1953. HOF Class of 1971.

One year, one season, 1952. The L.A. Rams were still a playoff team, still winning. OT Ken Casner was there if only for 1952 (played all 12 games). That was his whole NFL career; wore No. 79. Also played in the CFL.

Seven years with the L.A. Rams of Anaheim did TE Damone Johnson play (132 games in total), from 1986-92. Was drafted by the Rams in '85 but missed the entire season after early injury.

Totalled over 1,000 yards and scored 18 TDs. Had jersey No. 86. Clic on images...

The last two years of Gene Brito's NFL career were as a DE with the L.A. Rams (1952,53). He played a total of nine seasons with the NFL and in between a couple of years with the CFL. Sadly, he died of Lou Gehrig's disease at the age of 39. ..."Health -- the great equalizer".

    Rams jersey No. 80.

From 1985-88 one of the Rams WRs was Michael Young. Jersey No. 88.

Clic on images below. In the 2nd pic M.Y. is breaking huddle along with Henry Ellard.

From 1984 to '89 the Rams had Shawn Miller playing DL, a scrappy tough guy, but good football player.

Clic on jersey No. 98 below.

A 1st round Draft pick by the Rams in 1988 was WR Aaron Cox, he played in L.A. (Anaheim), until 1992 but except for his rookie year 'acceptable' productivity, AC did not meet team expectations. Wore No. 84.
